IBM buckling spring was hot this year. Especially Model F, but I don't want to split the vote, so let's say Buckling Spring in general!

Well in that case I'll just throw Alps SKCL/SKCM out there. Hot all the time.

I think that's fair. I love me a bit of blue Alps, and creams. Don't want something else cutting between them and stealing the win! Switch families at war!

That's a pretty epic war and you know someone will mention Cherry MX too, nothing you can do about that.

Of course. Bring it on!

I would narrow it down to Project Zealio Purple. "Ergo Clear" switches that are smoother than Cherry would make them.
The linear ones are not nearly as interesting.

Brother buckling springs. Just for being swappables... and buckling springs.

And also because I'm impatient; I should received a board with those switches soon.

That's not the buckling spring vote-splitting tactic that I anticipated!

Apple Butterfly Mechanism.

Mechanical into the full-on mainstream, as a way to make thinner keyboards. (Conductive metal dome over PCB, "butterfly" (living hinge plastic) stabilized.)

Hey, at least it is mechanical, unlike a certain fried chicken-themed keyboard...

I nominate Gateron switches, although I suppose Zealios are a subset of them. They finally ended the mantra of "all non-Cherry MX-style switches are inferior" in solid fashion.

I second Gaterons. They made a huge splash in the market this year because they (according to most users) feel better than MX; once we hear more about their durability they might seriously compete with Cherry. That's a big deal for such a new product.

I vote for the novatouch switch, bringing good caps to the topre world.

I predict IBM vs. Topre in the final. It'll be a fine fight!
