First of all to share a very strange switch,It comes from another collector, regrettably,I do not know its origin,The forum did not find the relevant information,It is a linear switch,I temporarily call it ‘Cherry MX Linear Notch Clear’,Because its plunger side looks like Chinese characters‘凹’,It is worth mentioning that in China we call the Cherry MX Clear is ‘MX white’ , we call the Cherry MX White is ‘MX Milk ’Its special plunger makes me want to know its source. Please tell me if you know the source of it,Thanks a lot!

Because I play games(LOL) all night last night,So this post is temporarily only go so far,I feel very sorry,When I woke up I will continue to update

I still lack a lot of Cherry switches ,such as Hirose Cherry MX Pale Yellow,Hirose Cherry MX Grey Green, and Cheery MX LOCK White ,etc.As well as many early switches in the M series.I'm sorry I didn't get the keycaps that couled be adapt it.But I guess it can't.Its notch made it need a special keycap.

Sure no problem, don't worry about the wiki for now, you have all the inforamtion collected quite professionally and we can add it bit by bit later. You have interesting information on what we call the Cherry gold crosspoint switch. I have enver seen what you temporarily call the "Cherry MX Linear Notch Clear". Very nice, thanks for sharing.

For yellow, see [wiki]Aristotle Yellow[/wiki].

According to … I don't recall his forum name, only his real name — Cherry have confirmed that they really did make a yellow switch, and he showed me a photo of just the slider. He's got more photos (that I've not seen), but since that point, he's vanished without a trace and Cherry suddenly lost all interest. The yellow switches I have are either 100% fake, or real/fake hybrids of some kind. They are definitely not real, but they may use some real parts.

No decent (macro) shots exist of the other unusual Cherry MX switches (odd shades of blue, Alps mount etc) so I can't comment on how likely they are to be real. For example, is the Cherry logo correct or not, and are the metal parts inside an exact match for Cherry? Is the writing and illustration on the base the correct typeface and style?

The Cherry logo on that notch switch is a match for the fake logo on Aristotle Yellow and I have a feeling it's not genuine. Notice how instead of separate cherries, it's just one solid, flat shape, as shown on the right here:

Thank you very much able to put such valuable advice,In fact,LOGO this problem also troubled me for a long time.Cherry logo has undergone many generations of change,So I have many versions of cherry switch LOGO.I have suspected this switch may be counterfeit products,But I also found other fuzzy LOGO switch,And they are very early MX switch,Such as the earlier version of the Cherry MX Blue(color to be deeper),Cherry MX-M8 Adapter Black, etc.(Pictures may not be clear,But the same kind of fuzzy LOGO)Whether there is mold production is not perfect situation? Also on Cherry MX Yellow,I have read the Cherry Germany official information,It is pointed out that counterfeit products,And my Cherry MX Yellow on the LOGO looks and you are also different. So I would like to know the exact information of Cherry MX Yellow and notch switch,Thanks again for your comments can be made!

A specialist in Cherry switches... Welcome UncleFan!

I'm just a beginner myself getting start to understand more the history and mechanisms of mechanical keyboards.
It seems to me that your English is totally fine regarding your communication so far here - east Asians from east Asia are perhaps too modest about their English language level, e.g. also for Hasu, a respected member in GH/DT.

Please have fun collaborating with other experts in DT to unravel the many mysteries in the history of key switches. And of course, get a more complete collection of key switches for your enjoyment along the journey. :D

The keystem dimensions (the size of the cross-shape part that the keycap fits onto) is indeed smaller in Hirose switches. This is true for both Hirose-made M8 switches and Hirose-made MX switches. I contacted Hirose to ask for information on their switches; it seems that they have no information about their keyboard switches. Hirose had their own keycap mount, and nobody knows why. It may have been designed to match another brand of switch.

Here is the problem: people in China and Taiwan collect unusual switches and never know where they came from! Even in Europe/North America, we have collectors who obtain switches and don't know/don't disclose their origin. I have started making a point of noting on the wiki what the origin is of any switch I've photographed, and I should really go through all existing pages and update them accordingly. (I have a precise record of where every one of my switches came from, although I may not know where the seller found it!)

I succeeded in persuading AliExpress seller harry ke to obtain photos of the keyboard with the Aristotle Yellow switches in. From these pictures, it appears to be a Chicony KB-5191, and it is from 1992. KB-5191 has been found with:
  • Mitsumi miniature mechanical (yellow and green)
  • Futaba clicky switch[3]
  • Aristotle Cherry MX clone (the common white ones)
  • Cherry MX Blue
  • Cherry MX Pale Blue
  • Aristotle Yellow
I only know that Chicony told me that they bought switches from Aristotle. Nobody knows what an Aristotle switch looks like. Two confirmed Cherry MX clone types have been found in Chicony keyboards, both from [wiki]Taiwan white and black shaft[/wiki]. The type we call "Aristotle Cherry MX clone" is alps.tw type TWB 6. A second type appears in Chicony keyboards, but from the photos I've seem I'm not sure which — one of the Type 2 variants. I am guessing that all of Taiwan white and black shaft is Aristotle.

Since "Aristotle Yellow" is rather odd, I would say:
  • Aristotle Cherry MX clone: definitely a clone
  • Aristotle Yellow: definitely a clone (despite the Cherry branding)
  • Cherry MX Pale Blue: very likely to be clone
To be SURE that any Cherry MX variant (Alps mount, notch mount etc) is GENUINE Cherry, then one of the following must be true:
  • It appears in a Cherry keyboard
  • The PCB is marked "CHERRY"
The disgraced IvanIvanovich made a number of claims about old Cherry switches that are all unproven. He consistently failed to provide his sources of information, so I cannot determine if he was right or wrong.

Asian collectors usually have no idea where they found their switches, so we don't know what keyboards they came in, and how reputable the brand was on that keyboard.

What we need to do, to solve this mystery, is get reliable examples of not just the switches, but the whole keyboard, and put detailed photos of every such keyboard on the wiki. For example, IvanIvanovich claimed that early MX switches were all clear, and snuci has documented (on the wiki) a Cherry MX Black keyboard from 1984: [wiki]Cherry KXN3-8451[/wiki]. This is the sort of data we need: photographed, dated examples showing the keyboard, and the switch, including the internal parts of the switch. With this data, we can start to build a clear picture.

OK, here's something — what is this patent for?

https://www.google.com/patents/US4339643

It seems to be a variant of [wiki]Cherry M9[/wiki], but nothing I've ever seen before. It seems to be tactile, but I don't know what the second spring is for. When I get chance I need to read through it. I only have one type of M9 switch, which is SPST linear.

This looks like a covered M8 with an earlier style slot key stem in a double pole configuration. The 1982 patent puts it really close to the move to low profile switches and the slotted key stem would have been too tall. They must have switched over to the cruciform key stem for stability and then removed the cover altogether to make the profile even slimmer. Maybe none of these were ever produced in production.

It's definitely an M9 shell and slider. M8/9/10?/11 all use the same contact system, but that's clearly M9.

I've never seen M9 with two helical springs though — once I read the patent through it may make more sense.

I'm hoping UncleFan has a tactile M9 switch in his collection!

Thank you for your reply to me!
