I've been gone for a while, what is kbdfr's wrath?
He’s a grumpy chocolate bar. Everything else follows from that!

(He’s a superb pedant, and one of the best bullshit debunkers around, especially when it comes to the den of scum and villainy also known as eBay. To cross him is to cross live wires… or at the very least get a good finger wagging, with references.)

He also seemed to have disliked my making a new keyboard layout for the French language that addressed the undeniable issues the extant one has (even if it was only an intellectual exercise).

"Wrath"?
I have conducted a thorough search on our (short) discussion concerning your "proposal for a new […] french national layout" and was unable to find anything else than factual arguments - on both sides, by the way

I think the word "pedant" describes me quite accurately,
even if there is definitely more poesy in "bullshit debunker"

This might be the most expensive beamspring listing I have seen thus far at nearly $6k :o . Listed as a 3278 but appears to actually be a 3276:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-3270-3278- ... SwF2xbXf5F

I have seen quite a few 3276 pictures on here but never on ebay, so maybe the seller is expecting someone who honestly doesn't know better to bite?

I'm mean - no way anyone buys that though, hahaha. I do have to agree though... prices are getting pretty insane.

If it's any consolation I'd be absolutely shocked if it sold at that asking price. There's another seller who has two rare 3278 variants that are listed for much less than this which still haven't sold (these were posted here many months ago too), even after a price drop. I wouldn't expect this to sell for much more than $1.5k, but who knows.

If you've read this far, proceeds go to help my son Julian, who survived childhood cancer but remains severely autistic.
Maybe they're hoping the buyer will see it as a donation rather than a purchase? Even if that's the case I agree the price is too high. I could see them asking that if it was NIB.

Sadly, the greed seems to be pervasive, not limited to specific sub-sub-niche items. There's a particular Industrial IBM Model M keyboard that sat for months on eBay with a BIN price of 2195USD (not 219.50, mind you)... I spotted it again a couple days ago, and the asking price is now... 3073USD.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1394950-NEW-OL ... 2030404345

This has gotten well beyond the point of ridiculousness.

These people don't seem to understand how markets work. They can ask for the moon, but their keyboards will just languish. There are people out there lusting for indie Model Ms and 3278s, but there are limits...

That's the same seller that hates keyboard collectors like us. There is a reason it is listed so high. Also this seller loves fan mail from us keyboard kids.

Recently bought some Pingmasters from this seller in the US. They have both the Chinese and Japanese versions with cheaper shipping than the ebay sellers.

It is the same seller. They have free shipping within the US. I bought one a week ago when eBay had everything 20% off.

When it starts costing the same as a Brand NEW Crate Engine ;

http://www.highperformanceworld.com.au/crate-engines/

Time to get yourself into therapy, if you ever consider wasting that amount of money on an old IBM keyboard.

Didn't know they supplied them in such a decent looking casing. Imagine having an ALL Metal Wang to swing about at a Lan Party ;) .
I doubt this is a metal case, at least the lower shell is clearly plastic.
It rather seems to have been sprayed with paint (and the caps received their fair part of it).

Anyway, this keyboard
(and I don’t mean a similar one, but the very same keyboard,
clearly identifiable by the marks on the F-keys label strip and the scuffs next to the Esc key left of the space bar
as well as by the glue remains on the lower shell)
can be found in a listing by another seller (apparently valid since Jun 13, 2017):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/232358277666
So does anyone know just what it IS? What switches it's likely to use? I like the look of it, and I love me some Wang Labs stuff, but I am not going to shell out that much dough for an unknown...

Based on the LED placement, font, and the fact that other similar wang keyboards used keytronic foam and foil, I'm guessing that's what it uses too.

I see this is another beamspring restored by jac with a pretty nice gray color scheme this time. I think a flat square black badge in the same style as the Industrial Model M engraved into the case would be better than this domed one, but it's still nice to have that option too. Definitely very curious how much this one is going to go for since he sold a displaywriter for around $1700 shipped previously, and IMO this one is much better looking.

I bought the one Elrick posted and I'm pretty sure it's Foam and Foil. It's a really cool looking board (especially on the inside), but the switches aren't great. Also, I'm pretty sure it's a thick plastic shell, not metal.

I'm sad the original yellow chromate on the mounting plate was replaced with chrome vinyl wrap =(

Other than that this mod is much less JACish, which is nice.
