Hi SantiGo! Great to hear from you! I was considering buying one of your cables, or asking you when the next group buy would be, rather.

Unfortunately I still don't have it working - I'm just waiting for an XWhatsit controller to arrive. As for foam, I initially went with 2mm firm neoprene: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-NEOPRE ... 2749.l2649

I wasn't happy with how the barrels were seated, as the mat was kinking due to my undersized holes with no notches cut out for the "buttresses". It felt pretty good, although I decided to take it apart again and use 2mm craft foam, similar to the stuff Fohat keeps advocating for. I made the holes oversized so that the mat would not kink or stretch. I also drilled holes through the assembly and added bolts, cranking them right down.

I'd love to hear about yours if you manage to find out why it doesn't work!

Do you think you could do a long shiny beige coiled cable? Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXkFiHglkIM

I think I prefer the beige cables to the black ones, but I wouldn't mind a black one either. :P

Yay. So after installing the XWhatsit I couldn't get Right Shift, either of the enter keys, right alt, F12 or the keys at right of the numpad (with the exception of the top one) to work. I opened the case to play with the bolts to see if they were interfering with the capacitance, but snapped off the micro USB port in the process. Fun.

I've only ever seen diagrams of these in IBM manuals, very excited to see one in the hands of a member of the community :)

Maybe now we can update the wiki with an actual picture of it! :P

It is finally fully-functional! My father painstakingly soldered the micro USB port back onto the controller after several attempts. Last time when the XWhatsit was soldered, I could not get some essential keys (The split enter keys, right shift, right control, F12, F24 and some to the right of the numpad). I assumed it was the tightness of the bolts, but didn't get a chance to loosen them, before I yanked the micro USB port off the controller. I was right - loosening the bolts significantly did the trick, although the feel isn't as tight as I'd like now. I may take it apart in the future and replace the M3 bolts with M4 bolts.

But yeah, it's all working now! I mapped the top enter key to backspace, so it's basically an HHKB backspace now. I'm trying to map volume up, volume down and mute to keys, but they don't do anything. Is there a reason for this?

I also have an updated sound test after a second foam replacement. As mentioned earlier, I went with 2mm craft foam. I think I prefer the neoprene more though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B_gw5dj9lQ
