87u is just the layout, they still make the 87u, but no, they don't make the r1 kind of 87u anymore

do you have a source on this? i was under the impression they were finished. they've been diligently removing discontinued products from their japanese site.

the fact that they still make the 87u...? edit: never mind i cannot read, but for what it's worth the 87u is not just the layout so it probably shouldn't be referred to as such

Looking at their website, it sure looks like they used 87U as a model number for the old R1 version. The 87U and the 87UB are all the way at the bottom. The new one is called the R2TL, with a bunch of other letters and numbers after that to denote other features.

Thats a shame. Not a fan of the new case design. Its nice and modern but its just not realforce IMO.

If they got rid of the stupid logo section that would help.

I've always hated the realforce LED sticker on the old 104U models. The way the colour stands out against the all black case really pees me off
The new ones just look even more stupid.
IMO the only perfect looking realforce is the HiPro

At least they are keeping the excellent keycaps on the non-backlit models.

I’ve never liked the look of full-size Realforces, anyway. That space above the numpad is an awkward spot to present well and so many full-size boards get it wrong.

Speaking of numpads: what’s the status there? Is a new R2 companion model on the way? If I ever typed enough numbers to justify one, I’d put a separate numpad to the left of a TKL, where it should be! And put it away again when back from numeric tedium…

Thankfully! Easily among my top favourite number one standout features of Topre boards: the truly excellent premium caps. As standard!
