By plug, do you mean that the wall power cord is faulty/incorrect for your country or the brick itself faulty?

If you can afford a charger, I think it's worth it! The machine has got a tonnne of character, and my Core 2 Duo powered W700 is still a fairly capable machine once you've got an SSD in it and a USB 3 ExpressCard on the side. On Linux at least, YouTube 1080p is definitely playable and most of my web/software development tools work just fine. The 1920x1200 screen is a pretty decent example, especially for its age. And your first-generation Core i7-powered W701 is obviously going to be a better performer!

I mean the "laptop" came without a charger, battery is drained, so I never was able to power it on. It was also missing the Drive caddies, but it wasn't too hard to 3d print those :P

I also think it's going to be a fun machine ... not sure what I'll do with it, but I sure am looking forward to the day it'll be useful. I will have struggled to get it to work, but I'm sure it'll have been worth it.

P.S. : I'm actually surprised there is no thinkpad thread on this forum, might make one :")

There's been one or two in the past. This one is quite an informative one: viewtopic.php?t=15457

Received this "Ericsson Type 1050-005 US" today.

Image

Can't really find any info about it online, but it has the same Ericsson RMD 973 series -switches as Ericsson Type 1121 that is on deskthority Wiki (wiki/Ericsson_1121)

Image

AEK2ish monopod feet.

Image

Comes with DIN5 connector, but it did not work with my external AT converter. Will try making XT converter for it on the weekend.

I highly doubt that the unicomp SSK will eat into original SSK that much , with normies or people with far too much money on eBay yeh sure , but true collectors and experts will still want the original and will be willing to pay a fair price for it. Normies cannot tell the difference and could not get hold of one anyway due to scalping assholes on eBay .

Finished screw modding and converting what I am hoping will be my new work board.

A word of warning, Unicomp's barrel frame requires quite a bit of modification to work in the older style M122 case. The drainage channels get in the way of the top housing in a ton of places and have to be cut off. It would be better to try and save the original barrel frame if possible.

Received today Apple M0115 AEK (Orange Alps) and A9M0331 mouse.

The keyboard is in just supremely good condition and all of the switches feel clean and essentially unused. Like getting it NOS although it is used. SuperSuperSuper happy with the purchase. The only nitpicky fault are the ratling stabilisers, but those should easily fixed with bit of lube. Also, pleasantly surprised that Hasu´s ADB converter even works with mouse. It was quick to remind me how terrible non-optical mouse were.
