Is there any difference?

The smaller (rectangle) one came later and is a cheapening of the product. They're more likely to break/crack in my own experience.

Hi, This may be a cheapening but I am not sure. If you notice the black keycap here has thinner cross supports, but has a heavy oval center. The white cap has the rectangle but also thicker cross supports.

Those two keycaps are from the same keyboard.

The other cap is not a beamspring cap, but a selectric cap. I think this might be the reason for the difference.

In this thread as well you can see selectric caps/beamspring caps with inconsistent steams. I am unsure why this is, but I there were multiple factories making keycaps for the same stem that have variations.

Probs should have added the photo... The 2 together are from the same beamspring. The other one is selectric.
