Garage find

Ok so I apologize if this is not the place for this but my father in law brought up this "old Keyboard" after cleaning out his garage. I am not a mechanical keyboard enthusiast but a quick search told me he had something special. I am very curious about how these boards are viewed and how I can find out more about it.

HOLY SHIT! That's an Omnikey 102 with a gold badge. If it has blue Alps you won the lottery with that thing.

Is there any particular model info or anything I should be looking for? I literally opened the box clicked the keys and said those are nice keys. I know there is a passion around certain keyboards but that is where my knowledge ends.

If you can remove a keycap you should try. It either has white switches or blue switches. In the latter case you've got something on your hands worth a few hundred bucks!

gold label 102 is really nice. Honeslty any omnikey is good but this one is one of the more sought after ones

is there a way to do this safely without a key puller?

try using two spoons placed underneath a keycap and opposite each other. Then pry up.

If it's alps, just hold it between two fingers and pull, it'll be fine. Alps sliders aren't prone to fall apart when you do something like that. I normally take off caps with just my fingers unless the cap is really really stuck, in which case i try to use a piece of plastic (metal can emboss plastic. so can plastic but it'll do way less of that)

even if your not a keyboard person you may actually like to use this keyboard yourself because its a nice keyboard great replacement to any rubber dome keyboard you may have and better than any modern clicky keyboard that they make nowadays

Check the box. It should come with a key puller. If it doesn't, it's not worth the risk of damage. A key puller only costs a dollar or two.

Congrats. Enjoy using it or selling it to someone who will. Given what that keyboard would have cost new, selling it for market value it totally acceptable.

Either way I'm glad it was saved from the landfill.
