IBM 5150 empty box. $100 + $20 shipping.
It's far more common to see iMac or iPad empty boxes for sale. I've got a few U-Haul boxes I could sell ...

Currently, that's $561. Only $140 per board. Shipping's $91 for expedited and $58 for economy. That's not bad. Cords are cut, though.
Is it bad that I'm estimating costs to repair in my head, especially considering I just bought a blue Alps?

If you wanted to buy these in order to profit any price below $1000 would be pretty dang good honestly. With replacement cables(which I have), ANSI mod, and deep clean they could probably each sell for $400 each which would be $600 profit. Just my take anyway.

I've bought stuff from this guy. He's a professor out of New Mexico. He sells uranium and geiger counters, too. He'd probably be an interesting person to sit down and talk with.
He may still have lots of 10 Alps switches for around $10 + shipping, and you only pay that one shipping charge for however many switches you get. That's good. What's bad is that he ships whatever switches of about the same color that's lying around. I think my last order for cream damped had 6 cream damped, a couple pine white, and a couple bamboo white. The order I had before that was also for cream damped and I had about the same spread of switches. When I told him about it through ebay, he responded by saying (direct quote; I have it in my ebay mail): "In the future, I suggest that you buy the ALPS keyswitches from other sellers, not from me. At age <deleted>, any sensitivity to color is likely for me to get worse, not better."
Anyhow, he's also selling
"Canada Red Clone" switches.
That'd be your Matias Quiet Linear.
EDIT: I checked that "Canada Blue" picture on my big monitor. The switches say "Matias" right on the front of them.
I just bought a Monterey case and PC board from this guy. Good thing I only wanted the case, because at least twenty pads were completely torn off the PC board in removing the switches (which he's selling separately). For a guy who writes up technical papers on unsoldering Alps switches (and which he actually included with the sale) he sure doesn't know what he's doing. At least I can say that I own actual examples of rare Canada Red and Canada Blue switches. (yes, he also included those!)
Caveat emptor!

In the case, they are practically indistinguishable, save for the connector(s).
♪ From Zanzibar to Berkeley Square.

Thanks for the pics, that helped me confirm something, I'll keep eyes on the 020 version on the market if possible.
btw, do you think 010&020 are using the same matrix design exactly?

Well, from followup correspondence with the "professor" you'll all be happy to know this about the "Canada Blue" switches:
"I painted BlUE onto the Canada white switch; there are at least four ALPS or clones with white sliders; the "Canada white" is a perfect copy of the genuine Blue Alps."
Sure glad we don't have to find the real thing or attempt to make reproductions now.

Went for $2550, not surprised. Like weezer said its the best condition I've seen and comes with some gorgeous keycaps to boot.
I just got a 5251 in mint condition, but it clearly needs new foam because the switches wobble like crazy. Also does anyone know how to lighten a beamspring spacebar? The 5251 spacebar is twice as heavy as the one on my 3276.

It's the
painting of the slider blue that makes the difference. Actually that's not too far off from my own claim that only the slider color makes blue Alps switches more valuable than early white Alps. But still...

Based off of the red and blue keycaps, this is the Micro Switch SW version instead of beam springs.

The most facile method is to remove the lefthand spring. The key technically does not need this spring to function as intended. A more pleasing and calculated solution would be to fabricate two springs with a sum resistive force equaling one stock IBM spring. Outside of that, you'd likely have to get crazy with 3D printing keys and PCB redesign.

Or just buy 2 replacement switch modules from Orihalcon.

Wouldn't the replacement modules have the same or greater resistance as the ones he has in the keyboard?

I have bought replacement modules from Orihalcon and they are weighted like the regular switches.

Nah, it's how yahoo works, like if you place a bid in the last three minutes the ending time will be refreshed to 8 minutes later. I suspect some dealer is trying to snug all of those and resell them to redditards lel
