Is that the case for Alps? I've just that one board, and haven't tried fiddling with it.
Sure can :)

What's with the passive aggressive beef I've heard whispered about Ripster by the way?
Very good! There's a lot to like about Alps, and Matias, that's often lost in the MX centric world.

As for the Tale of Ripster, it came up only yesterday:

I have a small problem folks
Image
How do I go about fixing this?
The previous owner/owner before that must have snapped the stem off because when I tried to take if off it snapped immediately. You may not be able to see it but the stem had actually been super glued/epoxied back in as there's a melted bond between it and the stem.
I probably need to replace the keycap and switch(which shouldn't be too expensive), but where do I source them? I wouldn't have the faintest clue where to go/who to talk to.

Open the switch housing, push out the broken stem from the other end of the slider, replace keycap?

If that's glued in there, then it's going to be a real shit-fight trying to get it out. I wouldn't even bother trying because I don't think you'd be able to push from the other end? All you really need is a replacement slider. If you can open the switch from the top then I'll send you a replacement one. You might have to send me your dodgy one first so I can make sure what I send you is going to fit. Can't help you with the cap though, sorry.

They're Alps SKCM Cream Damped, would you happen to have a stem for that variant?
Also, if you have just an Alps keycap of any sort lying around then I can cut the stem out of it and plastic cement it into the original keycap.
Does that sound feasible?

I have a Matias dampened switch. The sliders might be compatible. If they aren't you can have one of the switches if you're not fussy and feel up to the task of replacing the entire switch - I have no idea if the pins are in the same spot though. Unfortunately I still can't help you with the cap.

Thanks heaps. I'll see how I go digging the stem out for now and I'll get back to you.
Quick question, are you able to remove the dampeners from Alps and Matia switches?
