It's been about 10 days of GH and I'm bored now. Too many pussies and bitches. No humor there anymore. Every cries about Ripster and there's a bunch of re-hashed keyboard talk from 3-4 years ago. It's a real party.

I really only go there for the wiki. Which is to say, I don't go there a whole lot unless I'm extremely bored or need to lookup obscure keyboard details.

Well you guys are too harsh on the ol' geekhack. The problem of signal to noise ratio is because of its popularity. And ripster.

At deskthority we will prevent that kind of traffic by taking on a conspicuous socialist liberal communist European identity. And by making sure the French keep posting in their own little subforum. :ugeek:

I may be partially to blame. I've started to launch on people (starting last July) for completely derailing threads with 3 screens of complaining for 2-3 questionable posts. A couple made it personal with me, so I went webwit on their asses.

I think they need a "Ask The Dude" Subforum to compete with the Mighty Oracle.

And any talk about Ripster is good talk. This is how you get known as the Number One Keyboard Expert On The Planet.

I've noticed you don't really read the Wiki. Explains your technical errors in your posts.

I've noticed that even after writing over 90% of the valuable information on that wiki you still manage to be the single largest contributor of white noise on the site, directly and indirectly.

Dear iMav, if you're reading this, I would like to hand you the Runeazn Clickykeyboards.tk Foundation award for the worst forum administration in the world. Although you might think you've managed to sweep most of ripster's spam under the proverbial rug, I think you'll soon find that you've just given ripster the best blowjob he's ever had and he won't shut up about it.

You shouldn't talk shit about people in another forum. That takes a big pussy.

That's what I was told, anyway.

And big pussy is just what I've got, only the feline kind. Don't worry, I've told iMav just how I felt about his forum policies.

I've seen this inferior Oracle clone. Laaaaaaaame. How's this gonna work? Let me see.

"Dear Dude, eh ripster? (why am I calling you the Dude?), I have this question about keyboards ("which beam spring keyboard is best?") but I don't want a straight answer, I rather like to ruffle your ego in your ego topics filled with noise. Please repeatedly post links to the same wiki articles and recycle old memes to infinity."

Not sure it's gonna work. So in order to improve signal to noise, gh creates more noise, and then spreads it to separate topics. Yeah. Ehm.

Yeah, kinda messed up with having to be Ripster to post there. I don't think iMav really looked at yours.

Gives me an excuse to get the Blu-Ray of Big Lebowski though.

This is not the McGurk effect... it's mass delusion. Calling attention to the problem only makes more people notice a fundamental part of the sound of any mechanical keyboard.

Sure, some switches could be off, but ringing sounds are really not illogical if every switch has a freaking spring underneath it...

Resonation. Easy fix: deaden the parts/surfaces that can resonate. Here's one method:

Image

From my experience doing car audio work, I would go with Dynamat, although there are cheaper, equally effective solutions like window/gutter tape (same stuff as Dynamat).

Or... you can stop being a wuss and just accept the fact that you're using a mechanical keyboard and just get over it.

Or just don't buy a filco and get a not resonating board.

Or wear headphones.

I think Redpill is pissed when I pointed out you take the keys off BEFORE you spray the foam in.

He was nice enough to send them to me for Keyboard Science Chemical testing.

Which brand of yellow goop is that? There might be a solvent which doesn't damage the plastics, dyes, and surfacing on the keys. Although I'd personally just pull out a vinegar-soaked toothbrush and start scrubbing.

I imagine that's lemon mousse on the keys, and a quick rinse cleaned it off ;-)

Not as easy to clean as you would think.
I seriously do recommend trying other ping mods first.

Damned hard to find the MSDS for that ridiculously-named product. Kept bumping into offensive infomercial videos and labcoat-wearing actors pretending to be "scientists".

Nasty stuff. Looks like a nice dose of lung cancer, unless you live in the State of California where the law says it's safe. Hope the inside of your keyboard doesn't get too warm. Don't mix with water.
Avoid temperatures above 105F (41C). Toxic flammable gases and heat are released under decomposition conditions. Toxic fumes [nitrogen oxides, isocyanates, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide] may be released in fire situations.
Product reacts with water. Reaction may produce heat and/or gases. Reaction may be violent. Container may rupture from gas generation in a fire situation. Violent steam generation or eruption may occur upon application of direct water stream to hot liquids. Dense smoke is produced when product burns. Spills of these organic liquids on hot fibrous insulations may lead to lowering of the atoignition temperatures possibly resulting in spontaneous combustion.
The CLEAN-UP section offers:
Attempt to neutralize by suitable decontaminant solution: Formulation 1: sodium carbonate 5-10%; liquid detergent 0.2-2%; water to make up to 100%. OR Formulation 2: Concentrated ammonia solution 3-8%; liquid detergent 0.2-2%; water to make up to 100%. If ammonia is used, use good ventilation to prevent vapor exposure. If you have any questions on how to neutralize call The Dow Chemical Company.
Wear safety gloves and eyeballs and masks, etc etc.

for what it's worth, I have another method to try... once I modded my Filco to clear switches, a previously non-resonating keyboard now pings/rings/whatever you want to call it on a few keys. I have a roll of "FatMat" (knockoff Dynamat) that I bought partly because I need it for a car project and partly because I wanted to see whether adding a few scraps of that to the Filco's plate would deaden the sound. Once I have a few hours to try it (I'm in the middle of a huge remodeling project) I'll let you know if that's a viable option or not.

That one is in my Wiki link above. Sixty did that one long ago.

That's what is so funny about ping at Geekhack. It's like the Internet has no memory.

Except for my Sig of course there.

Ammonia does nothing to DRIED Great Stuff OR Filco Lettering.
