It was a korean gb, and for select GH members as far as I understand.

Model M gets my vote for colour.

that is ABS right? do you have the color codes? I must say... I'm not a huge fan of that color combo, but I agree it runs on everything.
This would be my pick

I do not have any info on it, unfortunately. It's a good color combo on the WYSE set, although I would actually prefer this gb to be one tone warmer.
Can you take a a picture with that WAT along with WAN, GRA, GSH? just to compare.

by matt3o
well WAT/GTP are very close to GTK/GCH (just a little less saturated)
the difference is huge.

Maybe we can set up a poll? Can we do that here, or anyone know a good site? Preferably one where you can put in an order of preference, considering that we have more than a couple of choices?
Posted: 25 Feb 2014, 19:51

I'd try to find max 3 combos and make a poll on them. Spreading the votes on 10 combos wouldn't work.

Indeed. But be sure to take pictures of them all, with as much to compare them with as possible. It's difficult to see what we're getting.
Actually, Model M, you say? How about redoing this:

Like this:
Pity I only had ABS samples. They were a pretty bunch:

Imagine if someone tried to pull a stunt like that here!

To only include a select few? isn't that how the whole community works?

Perhaps I read you wrong. Better to talk with people behind the scenes, I suppose, than to have group buys by invitation only. But really either thing makes my hairs stand on end, if it's something in current production.

there are not so many colors in PBT. SP suggests these
http://www.keycapsdirect.com/pbtcolors.php
The options for Model M replica are just 2, we don't have the same ABS selection. The closest is pictured above, the other is also very close and it's actually better imho

Looking at my Model Ms here, none of them look so brown. They're cooler greys than that. Don't you have any caps to compare with? (Rather than the buckling-spring-alley / whatever they call it "under cap" that isn't the actual cap.)
As for SP's own pictures, the "whites" are nice
And those caramel browns, oh my…

The seventies would have loved every one of those!

I know it doesn't seem the case, but when you place the color chip on the keycap that is the closest we can go (and it's pretty darn close, I also asked Samwisekoi to confirm with his color chips and his Model M and he confirmed my color selection).
Unfortunately the SP pictures are very bad, I'll try to take a picture to the whole PBT gray stack tomorrow.
Anyway considered the limited number of shades, the core point is to understand if we want:
1) beige (Model M like)
2) dark gray (dolch like but with all black legends)
3) medium neutral gray (wyse like)
4) light gray (warm or cold)
based on the selection the number of actual combos are very limited

Fair enough. Sounds like your plan is about right: choose wisely and let us proles have a vote at the end.
I suggest letting us choose 2 or 3 of the 4 (if we want), rather than just 1 option. That way we won't split so badly.

The legends will be black?

I don't think you misunderstood me, Muirium. At least when I joined the community, KMAC (or korean customs), CC's, rare Cherry sets like the Desko RGB sets along with other rare keyboards was something that was reserved for the few. I don't believe keycap group buys was restricted in any way, though. But stuff was a lot harder to come by and that is why I think it was like that, and to some degree still is.
Ever since a lot of manufactures of keycaps has been discovered and agreed to deal with us, it has been much less of a problem, but the the language barrier with the Asian community is of course a big hindrance in dealing with this problem.
GH is at times like visiting a primary school... cliques en masse!
Sorry for the OT.

SGI Granite on the left, Focus 2001 on the right
Tomorrow I'll set up the poll! yeeeah

Good stuff.
(Now turn the caps upside down, stack the chips up to the same height, and shoot again. The comparison works better when the surfaces are level. I was nagged to do this back in the
Round 5 sampling thread, but it worked well.)

tried, but it doesn't work with thin double shot caps. Honey is very thick and you actually have some plastic to look at, if I turn upside down the caps all you see is the black of the double shot

Fair enough. I'm spoiled by all these chunky caps. Well, besides those IBMs.

Btw, how much will it increase the price if we add additional colors on the print?`like having the "1" be black and "!" blue.

And would there be interest in it?

Yes! I'd rather single legends entirely, but dual colours are one way to call me back…

I believe we could print an unicorn anus farting rainbows if we really wanted

You're as anti-multi coloured legends as you are anti-unicorn? Pfft.

and I wanted to suggest dual color with greek legends...

Single legend FTW, as I said on GH something like the HONEY/NUMERIC7 will drop prices and add a lot of layouts.
US-Qwerty set + modifier set (+ISO+Tsangan) + Numpad + Symbols (like numeric7+language sets) will makes a great groupbuy !
For colours, I like a neutral græy like SG Granite, Concrete, Medium Gray (It's nice since PBT doesn't suffer yelowing) but I prefer a beige set as Focus 2001, Pebble, ModelM (It's warmer, not clinical as neutral græy) I don't like others Dolch is too dark, others are too light. I'm even in with a TT/TGJ set or a GCH/GJQ !!
For the font, I Gotham rounded is nice for spherical caps.

my only concern about beige sets is that I'm not sure how they look on white or black cases (aka 90% of keyboard cases around)
Posted: 26 Feb 2014, 00:18
by Muirium
Indeed. I agree with essentially everything Vierax said, including the bit about Dolch being too dark for this. The joy of dye sub PBT is to be light with dark legends. Interesting that we're not using the "beige" word quite so often now, despite the title…
matt3o wrote:and I wanted to suggest dual color with greek legends...
I think you'll find that's my job.

Everything looks good on black (cases), not so on white but i think it will look great on silver
