Used to be that Windows was mandatory. But anyone who uses Windows a few years from now, does so by choice. We're in that painful bit in between where Microsoft's mistakes hurt people who can't control what tools they use. It won't last long, though.
That's true fortunately. Right now it seems that Windows 8 is also teaching them a big lesson: that they can't force their stuff down people's throats any more like they used to. Windows 8 was a huge piece of impudence on their side for non-touchscreen users, and it seems they found that out in the meantime, because they have done a lot in Win 8.1 and Win 8.1 upgrade 1 that makes it more palpable for desktop users.
We'll see how this goes down. I think they can still survive in a world of choice, because all the alternatives have their own challenges. Apple only caters to a small part of the population with their overpriced and walled-garden approach. Android will continue to be a malware and a privacy nightmare, because it still has no security patch system (a problem MS solved many years ago in spite of a similarly diverse hardware base) and Google's "pay with your data" approach isn't for everyone either.
I think MS's main problem might be the abysmal karma they collected in the last 30 years. People just
hate them. Or at least find them uncool.

Microsoft: Pay and give up you privacy and do not own your software, just pay an overpriced rent. If your business relys on some features, they might not be there after the next secret update. NSA has a standard login to every windows box.
Google: Give up your privacy and you can google for your lost data, should the hardware ever fail. NSA googles your data, too.
Apple: Idiot proof, but no porn, please! NSA requires special Apple hardware to access Apple devices.
Debian: If you need the latest version of some software, compile it yourself. NSA relys on secure and reliable Debian systems, so they know how to use their hardware backdoors to access your machine!

If only every government agency was as miraculously competent as our friends at the NSA. Is there nothing they can't do?

My opinion: The kit should include the good old SGI logo, or the SUN logo, or the old Cherry logo, or ...

Will you pay and convince GMK to cut the legend for the Cherry logo?
The alternatives for the Win8 legend is not really there and pad printed is not an option.
Regarding Windows 8: HATERS GONNA HATE!

In fact, they already outsourced the mass-espionage to China.
They should have the tools for some fancy double-shot stuff.
ps: Soon, the Demongolator will come and move some posts ...

They should have plenty of exciting legends, but which ones should replace the windows logo? Some of the more detailed and interesting keys from Cherry have been pad printed (which I actually don't understand, since they have created more than enough detailed legends on some of their other double shot keys)
But know that I look at my own keyboard, there is actually this one

The flag looks OK to me. Just imagine it to be some national flag of some state, not yet discovered.

If we get the key in white-on-red you could imagine it as the danish flag

But it's a lot better than the Windows 8 logo, i'll give you that.

Maybe we should mix old "flag" and new menu key. It looks like the size of the legend match better that way too, the old menu was too big.

We should definitively do that, especially since GMK's old style menu key is very badly cut, or that was at least when I last saw it.

No it is the other way around. Red cross on white background is the English flag, which you see most often on English football players these days.
I have never cared much for Windows logos, as I use Linux most of the time anyway.
