I can imagine Orlando Bloom telling this in LOTR :)

Am I mistaken, or is page down usually shortened "PGDN", and not "PGDW"?

That's due to be fixed if I'm not mistaken!

I prefer to have everything on the same line actually... but again... I will stand to the vox populi

One thing I noticed, as we are on the topic of dual vs single line: Num Lock is dual line, while Scroll Lock is abbreviated Scrl in a single line - shouldn't it be Scrl Lock in two lines?

well, it is based on location of the keycap. The Num Lock doesn't stand together with other 1 line modifiers, so I can live with it on 2 lines.

Is this what you want for ergodox?

Image

please note that we can always change the legends BUT we cannot add or remove keys. So if in doubt better add a couple of keys.

Also would you like some keys in different color?

Yep thats what we want. I'd be partial to escape in red. I think colour option needs to be minimal. I've gotten so used to the beautiful monochrome look!

I really can't see any missing keys - I've looked at the most popular configurations and everything is covered until you hit like <30% of the sample base. I consider that a success.

Looks good to me. It probably won't cover most layouts completely (3 of 76 keys missing in mine) but if we try to get full coverage we're gonna end up with way too big of a set. Maybe add a 2x key, but I wouldn't add more 1.5x keys.

SPACE on the spacebar is a good idea, considering it's not as obvious on an ergodox as it is on a keyboard with a huge blank key.

woody wrote:Also, left and right side modifiers need more work.
please be more specific.
Right-hand modifiers (Control/Alt/Super/Menu) are smaller font size. Left-hand ones might not fit with the larger font size, or will need abbreviations.

To me it is an iterative process - choose font size, then try to fit legends while keeping SP recommended tolerances and the same abbreviation style. Rinse and repeat until coherent style is achieved.

oh okay. Like I said, legend size is not finalized yet. I will have to work on the final template that will go into production, but that is not relevant for the sake of receiving a quote.

Indeed. Shoot me a PM if you want help reviewing the base kit.

Post them all as you make them, and we can all help out. You'll always get more input from the professional nitpickers when we have something to start with!

Sorry if this was covered already, but will the spacebars and ISO enter be PBT, too?
Or is it still impossible for SP?

Posted: 10 Mar 2014, 12:54
by matt3o
This is a FULL PBT SET!

Spacebars and enters included.

I'm doing one last review.
Vierax wrote:Some missing : the !§ key for fr-azerty in the intl de,it,fr kit and Ê for bépo in the intl mono. You may add « and »
We already have the !§ key (or is it the other way around?). I don't want to add more keys to the Intl kits unless really (really) necessary.
Vierax wrote:Finally, I would like to have a 1unit AltGr in the ISO kit or a meta key (edit : as you did in the icon pro with the double arrow) and another dot key in mono or a comma in numpad.
I've already added quite a few of AltGr :) I'd say use FN or ALT or Blank or any key from Nerdom :)

If you want mono-legend you have to buy the numpad for the numbers, so you'd end up with two dots.
Vierax wrote:Some double in mono and intl : there is ^ in both kits, moreover ¨ : and ' ´ may be merged. But I think you did it on purpose since it depends on font (especially vertical/curved apostrophe and acute)
How can you merge ¨ : ? What if you need both?

you already have that beautiful hollow asterisk why would you want an anonymous chevron? :D

Anyway, I will try a different style for the symbols (namely arrows for arrows and chevron for control). I might end up liking that more than the current.

Huzzah for hollow asterisk! :)

Updated ergodox

what do you think? You have 1 additional 2u and 2 1.5u. Of course the blank kit wouldn't have the extra keys.
