An interesting idea

I wonder if this idea could be adapted to any type of mechanical keyboard?

Then you could customise what you want by just adding the parts you want, making your desired size or features?

You mean the "linkage bar"?

It's not a new idea. Some point-of-sale keyboards are modular in that way. For instance, check out the assembly that "Tiproman" kbdfr is using. ;)

The Microsoft Sidewinder X6 is a gaming keyboard from only a couple years ago that also allowed the numeric keypad to snap to either the left or the right side.

There was some kind of weird Kickstarter idea for a fully modular keyboard a while ago. I know there are mechanical keyboards with keypad accessories too, such as several Apple ones which didn't come with one by default - though I didn't know of any snap-on ones before.

There was this idea from DataDesk

I have one and it is quite hard to assemble. Maybe it was easier when it was new and the plastic was more supple.
