Interesting. I've written on an ANSI AZERTY keyboard, and it was awful, so I understand them. Seriously, since french and portuguese share a lot of base similarities, I'd advise any french writer to try the ISO-PT layout, it's quite simple to use even with symbols such as ~. «», etc.

It's funny that it took them so long to realize that unless you rely heavily on autocorrect, it's a pain to write in proper French with an azerty keyboard.
Both the US International and the French Canadian layouts seem much better (although I never really tried to adapt and am still stuck with azerty). Bépo (french dvorak) looks nice too, I'll probably give it a try someday.
