soarer Greek layer

Hello,

I use Soarer's keyboard controller firmware to program my keyboard. Could you recommend me a way to add a layer with Greek symbols while system language is German? ANSII code input is not possible because it is used in Mac OS.

Thank you.

Hi,

I understand that you prefer to do in the keyboard firmware, but IMO the best and most flexible way would still be to use Ukulele to make a MacOS keyboard layout:

I don't know if there is a direct way to enter Unicodes in MacOS like there is on Windows. If you know one, you could write macros for Soarer's controller that use that.

That's the reason for why I'm asking. Macros would be a really easy and neat solution. Any other ideas on how to realize it with keyboard firmware?

Maybe it's interesting for others as well. I found a workaround: I defined a keyboard shortcut and use it in a macro to change keyboard language input from German (or which language you like) to Unicode hex input. Following this shortcut the Greek symbol is written by Unicode key sequences and after that the shortcut for a change from Unicode to German is executed once again. So in my "Greek layer" every key changes keyboard language input and produces input using Unicode key sequences.

... and it works on exactly one computer, namely the one Mac where you defined the keyboard shortcut for switching to unicode hex imput, with exactly one keyboard, namely the one with your Soarer controller?

Please explain, I don't see the sense in that. If the solution needs config changes on your Mac anyway , you could as well use a Ukulele layout, and it would work with all the nice keyboards you'll ever want to plug into your computer. To do stuff like that in the keyboard only makes sense to me if you want to be able to use it on different computers.

I can use this Soarer setup with all my keyboards. It's nearly no effort to config the shortcuts on a Mac. The only reason for why I posted this idea is, that I'm fine with it and maybe it will be of use for others as well. ;)
