I imagine that assembling Costar stabilizers isn't much different?

Posted: 26 Oct 2016, 19:26
by Wodan
It's not a big deal but works completely different. You can put them in after the soldering and snap them into the plate. Maybe I can do another video when I assemble mx next Whitefox and go into more details about costar stabs.

Thanks for the video Wodan, this is a great help for my upcoming build! Where can I get these winkey blockers?

Posted: 26 Oct 2016, 22:02
by Wodan
Maybe you can find some people to order them from PMK ?

Shipping is terrible...

Post some still pictures showing it off.

Regarding the blockers, I am not sure it that is a better solution against just using 1u keys, like the arrows themselves.

Nice keyboard assembly instruction video, I dont think there is to show more, for example soldering sip sockets and sticker the switches is pretty self explaining, maybe you can show in the case of a gh60 satan pcb how to solder a rgb stripe on the pcb. You have always such nice projects Wodan :) .

Thanks for all the nice feedback :)

With the feedback I got so far and some other details I noticed on my own I will probably do another keyboard assembly video the next time I assemble a 60% kit. Or even better - a Whitefox!

Okay I am planning to do more videos ... Here's my ideas:

- State of the art Cherry MX switch harvesting/cleaning/modding (methods approved by Korean Grandmaster Kin25)
- Chest Cam of the next Recycler Haul
- The art of HAD cleaning/restauration

What's you fav?

Out of curiosity, do you sell the 'good' keyboards on behalf of the recycler, or are they free for taking home?

He mentioned in a other thread, he pays 5€ for each keyboard.

Active member (Wodan) of the realm of gigantic vintage keyboards now fondles these little toys favored by a small group from the not-so-serious realm of cacophony?
Quite some news ;)

I will probably build one with Alps switches one day.

Mmm, what is a planck but a 128 tipro reduced to a third? Doesn't sound so strange to me :)

It's actually my second Planck, they are neat and look awesome but have a hard time competing against slightly larger keyboards

Added two new videos!

- Building a ZZ96 kit
- Building a Preonic kit

hope you enjoy them :)

I find myself in the opposite position, built two atomics with poker cases I had around and genuino arduini, found out the supplementary keys are misleading me and that I'm not using them anyway : On the planck I got a number pad like layer that is much handy than the top row, I also use this layer for operators and currencies (using Unicode to have more fun), an 'hardware' layer for sound, brightness, screen rotation, etc., a navigating the ui/system commands layer and a diacritic and special typos layer.
I'm in the process of modding the tipro I got from you with two arduini nano, but lack of time. I already removed the pcb, need to wire it now. The tipro will be great to have direct access to enough software shortcuts with one key while maintaining the base planck layout, and I love it formfactor and the fact the case has these 'stealth' led windows :)
Looking at you last video, I found it lacks zooming at some moments, but great share ;)

Would love to see a Workshop thread about the Tipro Controller Replacement!
This really sounds like a fun project ...

And please keep the remarkt coming when you find anything missing or badly recorded in any of the videos. Will do some more assembly videos soon, also some switch cleaning and modding stuff. That part of the keyboard kit love is still missing ;)

Another compact form factor build, Gon60-based HHKB-like layout in a low profile aluminium case

Hope you enjoy it, always looking for feedback here! Watch me fail putting the Costar stabs in ;)

Holy hell, there must have been like €3000 worth of keyboards in that video!
