That feeling when...

...you open up your treasured SSK for the first time since you bought it, only to find it spotless inside -- and with a surprise bolt mod that the seller never even mentioned :o  :o  :o

...this evening is certainly coming up Milhouse

Unfortunately I don't think too many people experience that scenario...at least send your thanks to the seller!

Was that one of the ones that I did for Cindy?

I got it earlier this year from a seller in Denmark - he hadn't made any mods or changes himself other than swap out some of the buttons -- it's a 1392464 and I don't think he liked the Displaywriter legends ;)

But whoever made this mod also did a LED mod, which I frankly wish they hadn't. That's why I opened her up, to see how it was done, and fortunately it was done very nicely electronically too (cosmetically on the other hand...)

The LED mod doesn't look all that bad (to me). In any event, it can be overlooked when you consider the bolt mod surprise!

Would like to have seen that with hidden LED, like the μTron:

Yeah, that's stealthy! However, raised bulbs look appropriately retro on the IBM board.

Better still ...

You know this just adds insult to injury

Ah yes, that's the one

I do have a plan for making that LED mod a bit more acceptable - recessed LEDs and an LED cover like on the Japanese SSKs:
