[RANT] Where are my KEYCAPS?!

While doing my inventory of SDL cables, I found the small ziploc bag with the keycaps of a long-dead Model M that I had last used to test my custom layouts. I counted them, and all the keycaps where there, except for the twenty that I had replaced with clear keycaps (from a large lot of 71, yes, seventy-one, that I had bought at Clicky Keyboards long ago). So far, so good, but... where are those 20 keycaps AND the 51 clear ones? They are not where they were supposed to be. They are not in the related "computer stuff" boxes (either modern PC, older PCs, or my even older Atari) in the basement, either. I spent three hours last night looking for them, and they still don't show up. They could still be in one of the boxes where I keep my old books (a major undertaking, that search) or among my old lens collection (and that's shit that I don't want to stir up, for complex reasons), but the probability of actually finding them in either is rather low.

WHERE ARE MY KEYCAPS???!!!

Damn. :(

On the plus side, I took out a few 5¼” diskettes off storage — a copy of MS-DOS 6.0 and a couple old games that supported CGA. I'll soon determine if that Portable PC does actually boot and work properly (although, as I mentioned before, I'm happy if the keyboard works; the rest is just bonus).

Happened to me before too. You'll find them...eventually.

I really hope so, because I wanted to use them on an SSK that I recently had ISO-fied.

I know that feeling of losing shit, I managed to lose a single keycap off my realforce for a good few hours until it dropped from the inside of my trousers. No idea how it got down my pants..
Just keep them in a big ass bag locked away somewhere and you'll never lose em again. Here's my bag of ibm goodies.

Ikr, and I still have absolutely no idea how I accumulated so many parts.

That's the thing. I am an orderly guy. Everything has a place and everything is safely stored... so not being able to find something drives me up the wall. Especially something I DO care about a lot. And there's no reason whatsoever for those keycaps to NOT be where they were supposed to be.

Come to think of it, it's precisely the entire ziploc bag that's missing. Damn, I really don't want to start suspecting my ex for this...

Perhaps she just couldn't resist those sweet ass IBM caps? Can't blame her really.

I'd actually prefer it if that were the reason for such an action. :x

Lost my keys several years back. Tore the house apart, checked the cars, the yard, everywhere I could think to look. Accused dubious roommates, neighbors, soon-to-be-ex friends, finally resigned myself to the fact they were gone forever. 24 hours later I was sitting on the couch and the doorbell rang. Bingo! I opened the book on the coffee table, and there they were, marking my place where I had been reading when the doorbell rang the day before.

They'll be in the last place you look. (Or at least I wouldn't recommend looking further once you find them...)
