Someone found an IBM portable that was left outside at a hamfest and he's trying to restore it, since the motherboard looks OK. But he said he won't have time to restore the keyboard (rusty springs, and the keys stay down when pressed) and that he can give it to me for the price of shipping. This would be a fantastic deal, but the problem is, I already have a keyboard handwiring project planned, and I still don't know shipping from america (it would probably be expensive), or wheter I could get replacement parts from ellipse.

Should I get it? :?:

I would if you were in the US, but shipping will probably cost you $40-50 from the US. Our international shipping options are relatively poor.

If you still want to get it (looks like not) you may think about the shipping cost of the new flippers, I was about to buy some parts from modelfkeyboards.com but the shipping cost was something ridiculous like 40-50 U$D and without count customs taxes. If you want to buy something "from the outside" try don't get things that obligatorily needs original spares. I hope that this ancient industrial monster find a good home.

I'm all over getting it, but I think someone else may have beaten me to it.

PS, I'm in the USA - not where my profile says ;-)

I sent him a message and he let me know the shipping cost but I haven't heard back from him since. Wonder if someone else heard about it?

Ah looks like everything should be all set. I should hopefully be getting it shipped to me in a few days.
