What gives rubber dome that sudden drop?

As the title says... what gives rubber dome or membrane that sudden drop? I'm also new to here too.
Found a good gif to explain it, as it is not that easy to explain.

It is basically that the rubber dome is collapsing, which is why the force drops off. Instead of the dome pushing against your finger it is folding in on itself.
