BTC 5121 help (newbie post)

Hi everyone,

my first post here and it is already a troubleshooting one :|

I have a new-to-me (but otherwise a rather old) BTC 5121.

And I can’t get it to work.

- the numlock light comes on
- the PC thinks there is a keyboard attached (no BIOS errors)
- none of the keys work

I took the whole thing apart, re-seated the membrane and circuit membrane, but no luck, still the same result.

- could this be because I’m using a PC/AT -> PS/2 adapter? (I’ve tried two...)
- is there anything specific that I should be looking for?

Thanks for any help

It's hard to say without more information.

That said, I have a hunch that you're barking up the right tree with the adapter. Sometimes the passive adapters don't do the trick. In those cases (and, well, in many other cases) people opt for an active converter like a Soarer's converter. Have you tried the board with that?

BTW, when you say the num lock light comes on, does it turn on and off based on the actual state of numlock? Or does it just always stay lit?

Does the board even speak AT? Or XT?

Nope, from what I can see there is only AT->USB version? I need it to end in PS2 as it’s going into a PII machine

It doesn’t react to the NumLock key, but it changes during booting (off, then blinks a few times, then on when the OS boots)

Not sure but it’s from the 90s so I’d expect it to be AT
