Can Firmware be Replaced?

I'm shopping for my first mechanical keyboard, and I'm excited about the ikbc MF108 v3. I love the 108 key layout, the lighting, and that metal frame is very impressive. But... it can't record macros or reprogram any keys? That's not so ideal for me. I wonder, can the firmware be replaced on a keyboard like this, so that it can do macros and reprogrammed keys? Thanks for any tips you can share.

I believe you need eeprom onboard the keyboard to program macros or reflash the device with new firmware. You need additional space to store the macros that isn't being taken up by firmware as well, which I doubt would exist. Your best option is to purchase a third party dongle that can bind macros and alternate keys to the scancodes transmitted by the keyboard.

I didn't know that a dongle like that was available. Thanks for pointing me in this interesting direction. Quickly, I found an introduction to one.

Great video. That's actually where I learned about those kinds of dongles as well!
