Hopefully they’ll stand up well in comparison to the real thing.
Most important question, though: what colour are they going to be?

I'm not sure who these guys are but that certainly sounds interesting.

Edgar Matias keyboards.
http://matias.ca/tactilepro/
Matias is to Apple what Unicomp is to IBM.
The BIG difference is Matias keeps innovating.
Speaking of LACK of innovation WHERE is my HHKB3? I had to buy a Aluminum KBTalking Pure while waiting Topre........It has proper arrow keys mapping.

Hm....I still think the arrow keys should be on ESDF. Keep my fingers on the home row. Or just use vi style HJKL.

Awful awful awful keyboards. They're made from thin brittle plastic, I'm being serious, they are awful.
Out of the three that I owned, 1 had serious ghosting issues and they all three resonated/pinged a LOT.

+1.

I was really tempted by a Tactile Pro, but nearly everything I’ve read about them has been bad: construction issues, ghosting, ridiculously loud pinging. In the end, I stuck with the AEKII, even with the slight inconvenience of the iMate.

Are these orange ALPS going to be the same as classic orange ALPS?

I don't think they would have spent two years if they were just gonna copy the old ones.

I hope that the new key switches are smoother than Alps.

I noticed it. Actually kind of drooling with cautious optimism. If as described, should be cool, new bright orange switches like the SGI dampened white alps I loved in the past but quieter in an all black packages. I could go for it...

I think he was referring to the models of the upcoming Matias Tactile Pro 4 keyboard. But yes, it was posted that the switches will be available through various resellers including amazon for around $100 for a package of 800 switches.

Fingers crossed they will be compatible with all ALPS keyboards and key caps.
Anyone have info on where to get these switches in bulk? Just when I thought I was done doing switch swaps, they pull me back in!

A decent price and definitely worth while investment if you have multiple Alps boards.

Matias is now the most interesting Senior Geekhacker still posting at GH! Other than DanGwanG and his illegal drugs thread of course.
I should invite him to post here. Not DanGWanG because that violates Deskthority's TOS about violating country laws.
Favourite recent pic at GH!

I don't think he has figured out all that is left there are OCN Gaymerz that will never buy a ALPS keyboard.
And I don't recall him saying the switches will be Orange, those are the APCs. But we'll see.

ALPS has a long and proud tradition of being put in inferior keyboards.
Except the SGI Granite of course.

Of the newer ones the Filco Zero is quite nice.

I've had computer equipment fried by static sparks, but never a noticeable static discharge in any way with a keyboard. Seems like you'd need a pretty significant static charge to
fry a Filco just typing on it, and maybe also some conductive contamination under the keys?

I'm sure GH Moderators will get a big CHARGE from your post.
Hopefully not in a NEGATIVE way.
Ohmmmmmm.......
TF, plenty of intertoobs stories of keyboard Zapping..

Coulambs...
Baaaaaa..
Baa.
P.S. and lol on the SGI vs AEK2 sound discussion... I have those sound samples somewhere..

I can understand static discharge to a metal keyboard like the one mentioned in that thread, I've just never had a metal keyboard. What I got a kick out of was the guy who said he got shocked by a mouse ball
And yes I figured you would have sound sound samples of those keyboards and I might find them searching your considerable body of work.
