I am looking into getting into trackballs again, looking at some Vintage Mouse-Trak, how good are they?

Vintage trackballs are not like keyboard. They have got better over time. More buttons, scroll wheels and higher dpi. Have a look into l-track x.

Is correct, most lack a scroll wheel which make them pretty much unusable. Sure you can write a script to make a scroll lock but it isn't as convenient.
