you probably want to use a poker case as a base. you can design the PCB with kicad, for the firmware you can start from
hasu's GH60.
there's no easy answer for your questions, they are really too generic.

hello
i don't think crying HELP ME! will help
First this beongs to workshop section,
second one step after another is sometimes the best way to do things
So
Idea of design -> PCB -> controller -> switches -> keycaps -> case
It seems to be a long road, but the road is straight.
Don't expect to get a full comprehensive guide of 'how to build a keyboard from nothing'.
Good luck water

A summary/tutorial on this topic in the deskthority wiki for people who do have some basic soldering and programming skills would be very welcome. To me anyway, but I think also to many others in the future.
It's not unrealistic either given that there are a few people in this forum who have done it and have won valuable experience. Also, the teensy and some firmware for arbitrary matrices are already around, and there are some great articles already in the wiki about the teensy, cases, switches etc.

Wrong!
Please follow this correct order:
keycaps -> switches -> controller -> Idea of design -> case -> PCB

Yes
Keycaps - Get what you can come by.
Switch - Chose from the limited options.
Controller - just get an Atmega32u4, it's probably what you need.
Design - design by these limitations.
Case - produce a case or start a new project

PCB - skip the PCB
Or start with the idea and design If you want a bigger challenge

sorry but I'd say that you have to start from the case

based on what case you have you can choose all the other elements.

Code: Select all
Idea of design -> keycaps available? -> case available? -> switches -> controller -> pcb or wires

The common theme here being: you're going to be limited by available cases and available keycaps. Those are your constraints.

@Halvar IAgree with you i think a good guide could be very cool indeed.
@7bit LOL
but buy the keycaps, with the money left you could have, recycled controller, cardboard case and laser printed pcb ... Am i right ?
More seriously
you can make you own case in wood or 3D printing (expensive)...

thanks your comment'
I'll start with the pcb, perhaps with keycap which reversed or blank keycap
casenya I would use wood and alu ato switch is a switch I would use heavy like: dark gray or gray
Have you ever tries one of these switches?
what does that mean controller, whether a firmware?
and how to make controller
thank you for your help:)

Too bad that you got in after the GH60 order closed. There were some case options from different people (such as
this or
this one) which included a switch-mounting plate as part of the case design. With such a case, you would only have had to flip the mounting plate over, and you could have mounted everything and soldered the parts together with
direct wiring, I.e. without a PCB.
