Early 20th Century Tech Redux: Seed of Selectric?

Muiriam's recent post showing an early 1900s mechanical German typewriter prompted me to take a look at the writing machines of this era. There was a profusion of new species being spawned, and one can see the seeds of inspiration being sown for such later technological marvels as the IBM Selectric, the HHKB, and the Enigma machine.
For example, when I saw the image below from a distance, I thought I was looking at the amazing Selectric type ball. Instead, I was looking at an entire typewriter, but one whose form might have suggested later inventions....
