Back in the day... my friend got an early Amiga 500 which had a lovely feeling keyboard, and was US layout. When I eventually had enough money scrimped and saved to make a purchase mine came with a crappy feeling UK layout keyboard.

It's one of the reasons why I got so into mechanical keyboards, somehow compensating for the disappointment in those early years.

I've read that early Amiga's had space invader key switches, is this true of the Amiga 500's coming early into the UK?

Happy days regardless, had so much fun with that computer. If fact just yesterday I was hand scanning the manual for Amiga Benchmark Modula-2. This has never surfaced on the web.

However, most of what's written there is neither referenced nor illustrated, so it's all subject to misunderstandings.

Apparently, yes, early A500s had Hi-Tek keyboards.

It's possible that a few early Amiga 500s had NMB or Cherry switches, like the Amiga 2000, but if so they're extremely rare. I've never seen or heard of any. Try looking for the ones that have Commodore key where left Amiga should be.

Must check my A500. It has been hiding somewhere in the basement for the past 20 years. I wonder about the state of the 1000+ floppy disks.
