The drawback of this is you can't change your address anymore and can't order leftovers.

Basically I don't quite like the drug reference. I don't mind too much myself but I guess others could get offended. And I am doing a lot more serious things now than when I ended up with that nick name. It started out as a joke and has just stuck with me ever since lacking anything better. Also the character Prince Valium is quite boring and unlikable...

And yes, I guess that name had become some sort of "established trade mark". Even bigger reason to change now rather than later =P

Ergo Clear and Panda Clear are under Category:Keyboard Mods. Lube is generic for all switch types, so it fits under the category too.
If there is anything else that is specific to Cherry MX, then I think it belongs in Cherry MX's article.
Specific mods, such as "Ghetto Red" fit under "Cherry MX Red", etc.

Whilst moving to a new, hopefully easier-to-organise, wiki platform is a good idea, the fact that they’ve lost everything that was there before makes it a Pyrrhic victory at best. How motivated will people be to populate the new wiki when all their previous work was flushed like it had no value? And loathe as I am to grant him any attention, will it have as much in it without Ripster contributing?

I like how he somehow tries to get credit for deskthority by naming it a "spin-off". It is a bit disgraceful to see such a claim from a not so inspiring site admin who has managed to erase all attachments multiple times (this was not the first time) and then says he likes the "fresh start". GH happened despite him. If I were him, I'd concentrate on his backup skills. Deskthority was founded by initially me and sixty, with mrinterface and daedalus later joining. At that point I was like 6 months gone from gh and sixy was mostly idling. What we were into was the Korean communities. Those were inspiring. We wanted the western equivalent of that. I wouldn't call that a spin-off, but if one persists, then we're an OTD spin-off. The inspiration we got from gh is that we didn't want to be like them, because there would be no point to it.

Awww, how I loathe forum politics. In a perfect world, the Deskthority Wiki and the old Geekhack Wiki would be spun off and merged into a "Keyboardwiki" run by people who are not politically invested in either forum but who are trusted by the admins of both.

The important thing is that there is a good wiki. Not which site it is on. I will continue referring to the DT wiki from posts I made on Geekhack. A lot of the info that I have entered in the DT wiki are things that I have gathered from post on GH anyway.
It is the same community on both boards; it is just fuzzy in the edges.

The Deskthority wiki is so far ahead now that it makes sense to just use it instead.
Without Ripster contributing to Geekhack's wiki, I don't have much confidence in the ability of the Geekhack community to compete with DT's.

Geekhack has it's strengths (numbers), and DT has it's strengths too (everything else, lol). Everyone raved about the wiki on Geekhack in the past but in my opinion it was way too messy and difficult to find information there. Maybe this will be changed now that they are using decent software and I'd be happy to be proven wrong in future, but in the meantime I'll put my focus on DT.

GH does act as an excellent example of how *not* to run a forum. My impression of iMav is that he’s not competent. He makes it even worse by claiming he prefers the results of that incompetence, and that it was somehow intentional or desirable. His attitude generally stinks, especially when he makes posts like that trying to claim moral high-ground whilst simultaneously making snide little jabs.

When the choice is between the unreliable “original” and the reliable “spin-off”, I’d choose the spin-off every time.

I’d take 5 men over 100 monkeys every single time. Intelligence, care, and level-headedness count for far more when creating a wiki than having more bodies available. My impression of the GH membership is that only a very, very few of them ever bother to contribute to the wiki; the rest appear to spend most of their time bidding on Clacks and endlessly reposting “Shut Up and Take My Money!” memes.

The previous GH wiki had some really useful stuff in it, but it was a total fucking mess. DT’s wiki has less in it, but is actually structured rationally, and thus easier to use.

I find the dual preview possibilities highly annoying, accidentally using both of them there are two copies of the article following on top of each other. And the "outer" preview from the button at the bottom of course isn't updated when selecting preview from the frame of the edit window =P Could we please remove one of the buttons?.. or at least make it possible to close the preview that the button at the bottom opens.

I'm wondering if we plan to write these DIY articles should we just put it as a section within the main article on the keyboard or write is as a whole new page?

Speaking as someone with absolutely no authority, but a strong preference for organisation, I’d suggest each mod have its own page, but that you link to it from the main article about keyboard itself, ideally from a subsection entitled “Mods”. That way everything stays clean, tidy, and organised, and the information is readily accessible in a logical place.

The alternative is to dump everything related to a single keyboard into the one page, which will make the wiki just as chaotic and difficult to use as Geekhack’s was before it went into the memory hole.
