Inspired by the successful design of the Microsoft mouse (3rd gen), it got a rounder shape, ball front of centre and a larger button encompassing the front. Because of its shape, it got nicknamed the "tear-drop mouse".
Smaller printed label with one single screw underneath. Serial numbers start with 'L'. Second letter indicates country of manufacture: 'C'⇒China. Embossed text in plastic.
Two individual circuit boards: one for the Omron microswitch and one for sensors and electronics.
Large printed label with two small screws underneath. Serial numbers start with 'M'. Second letter indicates country of manufacture: 'I'⇒Ireland, 'B'⇒Malaysia.
One single circuit board inside.
A black version was sold for the Macintosh TV and the black Macintosh Performa 5420, which also got a black AppleDesign Keyboard. Both grey and black labels have been spotted.
