The Apple Macintosh Portable was the first portable Macintosh computer., released in 1989.

The keyboard layouts were similar to the Apple Standard Keyboards of the time, with some differences:

  • Instead of a numeric keypad, most computers had a trackball in its place. The trackball or keypad could be mounted on either the right or the left side of the alphanumeric keyboard. There are ribbon cables in the left and right corners, for which the numpad and the trackball module each has a connector but the alphanumeric keyboard has two.
  • The ANSI layout keyboard is similar to the Apple M0116 but instead of a backwards-L Return key, there is a horizontal Return key and a \ key. The key on the bottom row (\ key on the M0116) is an Option key.
