Keyswitches Unknown spring over membrane

Cardinal CP600 is a terminal and keyboard combination unit manufactured by Cardinal Technologies, Inc. of Lancaster, PA, USA. The unit is also known as the Professional Message Center (PMC).

Description

The unit integrates a keyboard, card swipe mechanism, telephone modem, terminal functionality (and possibly more) into a single keyboard unit. A speaker resides underneath the keyboard and the unit has several ports on the back including parallel, serial, modem and an RCA output for a monitor.

It is not known what type of switch is used, as it appears to be some kind of spring over membrane design. A unique feature is that the entire switch apparatus comprised of the key, slider and two springs can be removed entirely from the board without any soldering. The outer (larger) spring is responsible for key travel/return while the inner (smaller) spring depresses on a small spot on the underlying membrane to make contact.

The keyboard makes extensive use of plastic clips to hold the chassis together. No screws are used to hold the top and bottom outer plastic shells, and the keyboard itself uses plastic "hot rivets" to adhere to the upper shell and thus is not removable using standard tools.
