Compact keyboard can refer to any of a number of small keyboard designs that are typically smaller than a tenkeyless keyboard. One of the most common sizes of compact keyboard is the 60% keyboard, which comprises only the alphanumeric area of the standard keyboard.

Well-known sizes

  • 75% — historically the most common size, and widely available commercially; the term "75%" was introduced more recently, but the design principle itself long pre-dates the term, and keyboards in this form factor are more commonly known as "compact" as a result
  • 65% - a 60% keyboard with dedicated arrow keys.
  • 60% — probably the best-known size by name, 60% keyboards are a modern development that has also produced a number of commercially-made products
  • 40% — ultra-small community-made keyboards. Commercial models starting to show up.
