The term semi-mechanical keyboard could refer to any of the following:

Example: Corsair Vengeance K90
  • A keyboard with key switches that some would describe as being "semi-mechanical" or "half-mechanical". These often have a mechanism over a membrane (See Category:Membrane switches) or rubber domes integrated into individual switch modules. This usage is not common and would in some meanings encompass many keyboards that are otherwise widely considered to be mechanical, for example the IBM Model M. Tai-Hao use the term in reference to their former APC semi-mechanical series, which is spring-over-membrane with click leaves.
  • A marketing term for a rubber dome keyboard with individual sliders. This usage is relatively new whereas rubber domes with sliders are not. It has occurred as a market reaction to the recent resurgence of mechanical keyboards. The keycaps and sliders often have Cherry MX mount.
