Mechanical keyboards became a hobby for me with the purchase of my first (modern) mechanical keyboard, a Thermaltake Poseidon Z with Kailh Brown switches. I did not much like it, so I decided to try out another Tt Poseidon that had Kailh Blue switches. I did not much like it either as it felt very inconsistent to me, so I decided to get a higher end mechanical keyboard which was a Ducky Shine 3 with Cherry MX Blue switches. It became my favorite keyboard for some time until I saw a Unicomp Model M listed for sale brand new on eBay. I decided to try it out to see what the hype around the Model M was, but unfortunately the keyboard did not work so I returned it. I then found a Chicony KB-5161 at Goodwill for $20 which contained SKCM Blue switches and it became my new favorite as they were smoother than the Cherry MX in the DS3.
