I did a guide of how to open Cherry switches...

As the topic says, I did a guide, didn't find any in the wiki. So I was wondering how I add it to the wiki. The guide is in Swedish right now, but I can translate it fast.

Well, I'll copy paste it here, if you guys think it's good enough for the Wiki I'll translate it.

Image

Stoppa sedan in de små mejslarna i hålen, fast på andra sidan. Dra försikt loss fästena på andra sidan.
Image
Image

Image
Done and done! Du har nu bytt din första fjäder!

Thanks this will be helpful for some people that haven't done it. I don't speak the language but did you mention that you can only do this with pcb mounted boards?

I made a tool from a binder clip that works essentially the same.

The tool was inspired by an article by Ddogakddogak in 2006 - http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/119861

looks great,
if you not familiar with the wiki, look at some other articles and copy and paste the code you need.
btw. ".. a guide [on] how to ..." i think..

Keep the Swedish in the text, so we can learn a bit Swedish.
:-)

ps: And who organises the group buy for the KBDMania key caps opener?

Limmy

Was there a group buy for key caps opener? Could you clarify? There was one person who made custom key cap pullers from wood materials though. Are you referring to that?

The tool above was used for quite some time by members of KBDMania. I recently reintroduced it.

The KBDMania switch tool is pretty neat.
I made myself a switch opener that works in a completely different way. The switch needs to be on the PCB. Can you guess how it works? (I.e. how stupid I was...)

I open switches in 3 seconds with one small flat headed screw driver, there is no need for self build tools.

CeeSA has made a video.

We should make a switch opening contest at the keyboard party!

To make it more difficult, they must open a clear and a red switch, then swap springs and close both switches again without breaking them.

Plate mounted switches ? :D

I just wanna say there is an easier way, there is no need for 3 screw drivers or special tools. ;)

Reminds me I have an original sandy55 Alps switch opener somewhere.

I like the game, but booze should be involved somehow.

Log in with your deskthority account.
Think of a title, put it in a url, like this:
http://deskthority.net/wiki/Opening_Cherry_switches

You can use spaces, they will be converted to underscores.

It says the page doesn't exist yet. Now click on the Create tab.

Findecanor

Make sure that you could find the page easily from [[Cherry MX]] also.

Aight, thanks.
I'll add it as soon as I get some spare time, now I need to sleep, been working all night.
Meanwhile I give you an epic wallpaper that I put together!

I still like the binderclip one (korean afaik), same thing just slicker :P
Finally getting the forkodeath ref (was too lazy to search everytime); isn't that a bit sharp (end and fishhooked insides)? any damage so far?

Not when you file the points.

I hear Europeans like fondue. Big in Japan too!

good point, sadly that means sacrificing one. will probably go the binderclip route myself. fancier though sounds less so.
And I am veeeery big on dutch cheesefondue- not so much the swiss version. Regular fondue I haven't even tried.

[IMAGE SHOWING SWITCH OPENING TOOL FOR PROS]...
:?
Tis is a good tool to open switches but not very thumb friendly, I'm afraid!

Until I get the KBDMania switch opener, I will use the screwdriver method.

1 switch done.
125 remaining ...

Very nice guide, I just built one and it works great,
the only thing I would add is that you need to either flatten
the ends or file them so they don't have a disk section,
otherwise they are a bit hard to insert in the holes.

I also thought of an alternative, in France we can get for cheap these snail pliers :

bf978ade-061d-be5f-0880-4478c9650c31.jpg (46.53 KiB) Viewed 50811 times
and with 2 of these you can build a nice tool, I'm just afraid the ends would be too thick.

I really can not remove it ... where can I buy the tools?
