I just bought one of the different coloured 'kid trac' trackballs from CST for £1.

I was wondering how this model differed from the different black coloured ones.
I can't see to find the specs online.

I assume its made the same, but perhaps with a lower dpi?

I found one too, I have to win it yet.

I was looking for info and found it was 300dpi but can't find right now the source so I may be wrong. You have to look for CST Kidtrac or CST 1350.

Not quite as good as the 1600dpi of the black models. However those only seem available for £70 or so.
That's a little rich when the only reason I want it is so I can use a pool ball in it and it look cool on my desk.

I fing that it looks funny that's the reason I want one. I'm still using 400dpi so there's nothing wrong with it being 300dpi apparently.

Yeah, not sure how its going to compare against my 4000dpi Orochi…

Still for 99p I might use it for an arcade machine or some such.

This arrived today, once I had turned up the sensitivity on the computer it was more than usable.

A few points -
• The movement has dynamic gain, that is if you scroll faster the cursor accelerates and moves quicker to match. If you scroll slowly you can use it for pixel placing
• Dragging can be done by the usual click and drag or you can use the middle button to activate a 'drag lock'
• Scrolling is done by holding the same middle button for 2.5 seconds then using the ball to scroll, not as elegant as it could be

I wonder if anyone could take a picture of the circuit board for there normal CST? I wondered if maybe some features could be added to the device by moving jumpers adding scroll wheels etc.

I've been perusing the CST website for awhile now, and it seems the features of the mouse are not dependent on the color schemes. So you can get a black one with the exact same features, get a mouse with the multi-color scheme that has more features, etc. They have a lot of different models, but it's difficult to find anybody that sells all the different models.

I just purchased an CST trackball with a scroll wheel and the external jacks for two more buttons, so if I remember, I could open it up and take some pictures for comparison's sake.

You can add the external jack to this one, the last picture shows the little solder points for it.

This is the inside of my CST2545-5w-RC to be exact.
I was cleaning it, when this thread popped up.

I should have thought really, it makes sense that the modern ones would have a much smaller circuit board, plus the improved sensor mechanism.

Practically nothing like the one I have.
