Hello, I've been lurking for a while now and recently came up with an idea for a compact HHKB-style keyboard. Please let me know what you think:http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/# ... 128732d302

Looks great, as long as you don't need the number 5. ;) Where would you place the other symbols?

Oops, i seem to have missed the 5 key, thanks for pointing that out! I will add the symbols to the second layer soon.

Apparently it’s some problem with my browser or the site (I’ll try clearing the caches and trying again, but in the mean time I opened a different browser). For the curious:

I recommend putting the numbers in a numpad-like layout rather than all in a row. Or if you want to put them in a row, place the lower numbers on your thumbs/index fingers, and higher (less common) numbers on your pinkies.

This is not really a new idea. Actually, the HYPER/MICRO will support this layout.
:o

That sucks! Where's the HHKB Fn layer? And that space bar, gah! Naturally, I suggest something more like this:

Each to their own…

i like separate F keys and i will not lose much desk space with that

Fn will just be for the usual print screen and arrow on wasd and so on

for me that layout with ghetto reds made with lubed vintage backs ( or liner alps but good luck getting the caps)would be the most amazing board for playing games

You don't like big space bars ?

I like it as well. If I going to get a 40 I'm going to consider this layout.

I guess you’re more used to telephones than computer/calculator numpads?

You might consider just using the spacebar for '0'

Dream harder!

@ab00: I like your design as well. 4u space bars are ideal for inventive little customs!

It reminds me of 7bit's HyperMicro project in its ANSI400 config:

But I think I prefer your 1u mods. 7bit's look good, but there's too few of them. Fn keys are absolutely vital on anything 60% and smaller. Speaking of which: as I told Andrew, I prefer an HHKB style Fn key to the right of right Shift. No room for that with your layout or 7bit's, which already have small right Shift keys.

So this is what I came up with when designing a sub-60% with 4u space bar:

It's a wireless project I'm working on with a few guys. We're trying to save on controller pins with a small layout, but still 5 rows as you can see. A 40% does really appeal to me, though. I'm just still to see one that's just right.
