Re: Price Check: How much is my _____ worth?
Thank you very much for your reply. Hello back to you! The keycaps of Model M and Model F boards are freely interchangeable (that means inbetween rows and also boards). Ms and Fs came with compatible caps. At some point with the Ms (as part of the cost cutting measures I assume) IBM moved to a two-p...

Re: Price Check: How much is my _____ worth?
Hello to all of you I have been offered an IBM Model F XT keyboard for about 100 € plus shipping. It looks good, but is missing a couple of keys. Also, the identification number is a bit strange. On the other hand, in the pictures it looks like the stems are the same or very similar to those of the ...

Re: IO expanders with RP2040
In I finally solved it. I have not yet programmed a complete matrix processing routine, but I have managed to read and write correctly from the MCP23S08. I started from the scratch, with an arduino, to check that everything was working, and then passed it to qmk. The main problem was that I wasn't q...

Re: IO expanders with RP2040
Hello all. This is proving to be more complicated than it seemed (or I am more clumsy than I thought). I think I've made some progress, but basically I'm still at the same point. On the one hand, I've found [1] a keyboard driver among the qmk ones, which does something very similar to what I'm tryin...

Re: IO expanders with RP2040
Rereading the MCP32S08 documentation, I have noticed an important detail. To read from the SPI bus, the CS pin must be set to low. I've changed the startup functions, and included some debugging code, but it still doesn't work. void matrix_init_custom(void) { // SPI Matrix setPinOutput(SPI_MATRIX_CH...

Re: IO expanders with RP2040
I assume you are following https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/spi_driver.md and https://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/aemDocuments/documents/APID/ProductDocuments/DataSheets/MCP23008-MCP23S08-Data-Sheet-DS20001919.pdf. Overall, I would expect: Two address pins are hardwired to fix S...

Re: IO expanders with RP2040
Not really exactly the answer you're looking for, but just an idea: The Pico has 26 GPIOs available, but RP2040 has more, so if you're gonna build SMD-assembled PCB and not use the pico, then you don't need an expander. (At least definitely not for normal ModelM-size keyboard) Also if you do want t...

IO expanders with RP2040
Hello all tl;dr Does anyone know or have documentation on configuring io expanders with a RP2040 microcontroller, via SPI? Long question I'm trying to program a keyboard controller with a raspberry pi pico board and a MCP23S08 expander; I want to make an alternative controller for a Model M, somethi...

Re: USB host shield doubt/problem
Not sure what exact chip you have but here's the first one I found: Capture.JPG Finally, I was able to confirm that it is a labelling problem with the USB host shield. After reading your post, I looked up the diagram of my chip (which is the same one you linked to), and followed the path from the c...

Re: USB host shield doubt/problem
I had (have, really) the same problem! In fact, I still have a non-functional pro micro/USB host shield wired up somewhere on my desk ... Anyway, I think the source of the problem is explained here: https://forum.arduino.cc/t/usb-host-mini-shield-not-communicating-with-pro-micro-help-spi/314349 As ...

should According to what source? Your eyes are saying otherwise. Actually the labels are saying otherwise, but I don't know if the pins are in correct order. Well, the promicro (and clones) pinout: https://cdn.sparkfun.com/r/600-600/assets/9/c/3/c/4/523a1765757b7f5c6e8b4567.png The elite-C one: htt...

USB host shield doubt/problem
Hello everyone A few months ago I bought a usb host shield, to mount a usb-usb converter (like this one https://yaowei.dev/posts/usb-to-usb-converter/ , for example). It is supposed to be able to directly attach a promicro or similar microcontroller (I have a Chinese clone saved for it). The right c...

Advice to buy ultrasonic tank
Hello everyone. I'm thinking of buying an ultrasonic tank for keycap cleaning. What capacity, power and temperature would be advisable? I have seen many second-hand ones in the €25-70 range, with a capacity between 0.6 and 2.5l, and between 50 and 150W. On amazon, I have seen comments that those wit...

Cleaning agent for ultrasonic clean
A friend can lend me an ultrasonic tank to clean the keycaps (and stems). Which cleaning agent is better to use? Is there a specific one or is a domestic one enough?
How long would it take to clean the keys? It is a 2.5l tank, 160W power.
Thanks in advance.

QMK bootloader mode
Hi to all. I am doing tests with the QMK firmware in a converter for an M122. So far, I've gotten everything to work properly. However, I have not been able to reset the controller (promicro) from the keyboard. I've enabled bootmagic support, and assigned a key on layer 1 for reset. But it does not ...

Re: IBM model M converter and QMK firmware
The implementation of of the clock signal seems to be different on the QMK version. It relies on hardware features only available on PD5 (XCK1). Without re-implementing the code I think you're stuck using PD5. Finally, I find a solution. QMK, ( and TMK also ) uses D2/D5 pins when using USART protoc...

IBM model M converter and QMK firmware
Hi to all I have a functional [1] DIY terminal-to-usb converter for a model M122. I's made with a promicro board. I can flash TMK or Soarer firmware, which both work fine. I'm trying to flash QMK firmware with no success. QMK firmware is compiled and flashed with no problems, bus keyboard does nothi...

Lubricate IBM model M
Hi to all My two model M's (101 and 122) are needing a deep cleaning. Some keys feel "hard" also, so I'm thinking in lubricate stems (not springs). I've found no clear information about lubricate this kind of keyboards, beyond some extreme "lube mods". I have a krytox 205 lube, but I don't know if i...

Re: Two small problems with IBM M122 convertion.
Thanks for the clues, although are a bit disappointing. First, the Teensy vs Pro Micro question. I'm generally dubious about Pro Micros. I often point the finger at them, and I'm often right . Don't think that's likely in your case, though. See, when a Pro Micro isn't up to the job, it usually doesn...

Two small problems with IBM M122 convertion.
First, best regards to all. This is my first message in this forum and I've not see a "greetings" or "welcome" thread. ;-) Next, my two little questions. Recently, I have brought an IBM model M122 keyboard. Just now, I'm using a standard model M, with an (cheap) active PS/2 to USB converter, which w...
