Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
I managed to get both units working together last night, but my ribbon connection is not up to the job - it kept dropping connections. I'm going to directly wire them together in the short term if I can't fix it quickly. The second keyboard scans the keys and sends them to the main unit via a i2c me...

Round 5 is closing soon (supposedly final boarding is the end of this month now) and is due to ship in summer, if you have patience. One $19 kit of blanks literally has my name on it: Thanks for the suggestion. I might buy a set or two. What keys (Rows) are you using in the various positions on you...

It's cool that you are working on this yourself, but you should be aware that MOZ on geekhack is working on a very similar sounding thing on geekhack here for the next Ergodox, not chorded but still having two independent sides that can talk to each other. Perhaps you guys could share code if you p...

Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
I've just finished building the MX Brown version. Unfortunately I only have enough key caps for two, so I removed them from my original MX Blue unit... :-( I need to finalize the optimum cap arrangement and order a few sets... Tomorrow I'm going to start work on the code to run both hands simultaneo...

So...you're going back to two handed? :) As Muirium stated, the design was always intended to be usable with either hand or two hands depending on the application. If typing speed is needed you can not beat a two handed keyboard with a single hand, but in certain typing limited applications the abi...

Well, I managed to build my second OneHand keyboard. I'm even using it to type this post. It's much quieter than the MX Blue version which my wife appreciates... Here's a quick photo of the two of them together. I used Red LEDs on the MX Blue unit and (brighter) Blue LEDs on the MX Red unit! http://...

Well my MX Red and Brown switches arrived in the mail today - Thanks 7bit! I now have to resist rushing to make both new boards, one Red, one Brown, so I can fully document the build for posterity... Below you can see a picture of two OneHand keyboards in the TwoHand configuration, together with my ...

Re: XT/AT/PS2/Terminal to USB Converter with NKRO
The data signal could use any pin, but for my code the clock signal needs to be on an pin capable of generating interrupts on both low-high and high-low edges. So that's one of PD0..3 or PE6, on an ATmega32U4. Thanks for the response. I may look at making my own much simpler PS/2 keyboard converter...

There's one big problem with that idea - I haven't released the source code yet, and no idea when I will! I understand. Theoretically , could your software be modified to work from any pin pair, or do you need specific functions associated with the I2C pins? I suppose I could look at the PS/2 keybo...

Re: XT/AT/PS2/Terminal to USB Converter with NKRO
Hi Soarer, apologies if this has been discussed on the thread. I'm on my tablet at the moment and it's a little slow scanning through the thread... Question: Is it possible to use any other pins for the keyboard input, or are you using the I2C hardware within your code? The reason I ask is that I'd ...

Muirium - Don't tempt me! ;o) I think I'm going to hold off on finishing V2 until i get another V1 built up and try using two units together as this may influence my design. I'm also considering dropping the LEDs totally, replacing them with a better integrated OLED display (although this works agai...

Muirium, Have you seen the Roving Networks RN-42-HID at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10823 It looks like it'll do everything needed. You can send scan codes and modifiers in a similar way to the USB HID built into the ATmega32U4. I might see if I can drop the footprint onto V2, although it woul...

I find the symmetric physical arrangement to be excellent for me - especially as the shifts are based on my fingers! - although the option to run two handed will make it more of a daily driver. The issue with bluetooth is that the software complexity. I just saw this module: http://learn.adafruit.co...

Re: Cherry MX / clear case preorders @0.5 EUR until 2014-01-
Guys, i've removed the LED's from my KB. Do I need to replace them after the switch swap (or put jumpers in place) or will the KB work with the LED solder points as broken connections? Just leave the points disconnected. A jumper would cause excessive current to be pulled from the driving IC which ...

Hi Muirium, I've been playing around with the chording Vs 'half keyboard' type encoding. For me, I've come to the conclusion that an optimized half keyboard style can result in faster typing, with chords being left for special characters and QXZ. The main issue I have is providing quick and easy acc...

Excellent News! I have been a little busy recently as I have over 1,000 industrial systems that I designed and programmed being built into the new Aluminum Ford F-150 production line, so I haven't had chance to work on the OneHand as much as I would like... I'm still waiting for the MX Reds and MX B...

Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
Looking back at your assembly instructions on the previous page, I suddenly realize how silly it to solder on all the switches before the Teensy, haha. Probably going to have to desolder some. All the holes are through hole plated. If you bought a Teensy without the pins installed you can solder pi...

Re: [WIP] OneHand - 20% Keyboard
Good to hear about your progress. I've been busy over the holidays visiting my parents in the UK, so haven't done much with the software. I'm optimizing the code to speed up the scanning and reduce missing and repeated characters. There's just a couple of items which need correcting before release. ...

Re: Cherry MX / clear case switches for preorder!
7bit,
What's the process to check on orders. I think my order #0431 is awaiting the PCB mounted Reds, as the Browns are in stock, but it would be nice to know everything is in place for when the Reds are in stock.
Regards,
PJE

I'm still in for one too, of course, because it's fine work. Thanks for making the inside and outside of a smart little keyboard, gentlemen! Indeed, the project's currently in the running for a Deskthority award: Best Space Saving / Compact Keyboard of 2013. Sterling effort. http://deskthority.net/...

I've been playing with the character positions, and have come up with an alternative which uses much less chording for normal typing. It uses the thumb key to select between two alternative characters. With this I only need to use three fingered chords for q, x, and z. http://www.creativephotoeffect...

Hi Mohitgarg, The case looks fantastic!!!! Using a keyswitch plate will mean that you will need to mount the header pins for the Teensy to the PCB before attaching the switches, otherwise you'd have to be able to push the two switches 21 & 24 through the plate from underneath, which would need a big...

I've been looking at the pairs, triples and quads, to guide the letter placement - that's why I swapped T and A to allow THE/THEN to typed more easily. With the OLED display driver, and Serial USB debugging within the code, I'm currently at: Binary sketch size: 9,826 bytes (of a 32,256 byte maximum)...
