I don't think open sourcing this project and getting some return on your investment are mutually exclusive. Yes, some will build their own based on the designs and firmware, but the wide majority likey lack the motivation and/or the know-how. And I agree with David, the miniguru's innovation is its ...

completely open source the project
Any reason not to do this? This would be my vote.

I gave swm a whirl recently, but I realized I was just reimplementing a bunch of stuff I get for free with bspwm. What kind of window management stuff are you doing that you don't get with openbox?

I'm a big fan of bspwm, it's very simple. What I like most is the clear separation between window manager stuff and the keybinding stuff (done through sxhkd). Most other WMs lump them together and you end up with a mess.

DG13-B1AA these are the ones you need.
I'm at a loss as to what to do with these switches. Seems like you'd need a specially made case in order to make use of them? I understand how they work, but since you can't attach anything to them, you need something with give that mounts front of them.

Is it possible to reuse keyboard buttons as mouse buttons (via a separate layer)?

I harvested a trackpoint module from an old thinkpad keyboard. It looks pretty similar to pictures I've seen posted here. I still need to figure out how to dremel these keycaps without making a mess. Also, I don't fully understand how a stem gets attached to it. Does it just fit over the top similar...

Hi, I'm about to place an order, but was wondering if someone could help me choose between the various plates? This will be my first mech, first 40%, etc. etc. etc. so I don't really understand everything.

Also, shipping to USA is ok?
