Re: Learning Colemak-DH
8 or 9 days later, I am typing slowly but relatively accurately on the full Colemak DH layout. I switched over to using keybr for training. One letter at a time. Doing a few hours of dedicated training every day (while listening to podcasts or what have you) It feels like each day I wake up with sig...

Re: Learning Colemak-DH
Jumped up to Tarmak stage 2 yesterday: 2023-08-10 14_20_36-pklImgWin.png Immediately felt unproductive and switched back to qwerty for some home server maintenance. Typing passwords is almost entirely muscle memory so that really broke me. But I am back at the typing practice, and clawing back to a ...

Re: Learning Colemak-DH
Yeah I am not sure how I feel about the bottom row yet. Keeping consistent shortcut keys was part of the Colemak allure, but I do like the repositioning of the d and h keys... I feel like running it on an ISO or ortho layout would make a lot more sense: I could deal with just one extra jump to the V...

Learning Colemak-DH
I have always wanted to try learning a new keyboard layout. It is the one avenue of keyboarding I never really explored, as I always figured that the time commitment to get good would just be too extreme. Well in the past few months I switched over to using vim as my primary IDE and have been loving...

Re: Future of social media
Content discovery and following across multiple instances is a big problem with federated communities, and is why Lemmy being a replacement for Reddit (your one stop shop to surface level discussion on infinite topics) is going to be a tough sell. You could definitely build a keyboard discussion for...

Re: Whatever happened to ________?
I have a lot of nostalgia for that same 2013-2016 period as well. Besides life just taking you in different directions with less time to put into hobbies, I think I got most of what I wanted to get out of keyboards. I like learning about and re-discovering old as dirt vintage stuff. Building and res...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
Man, that looks marvellous! :D I expect the sound still has a bit more Model M in the mix compared to a full F barrel plate, but otherwise it should be very close, I’m guessing. Here is the sound test video after I did the floss mod (and as the keyboard still exists on my desk today). qqhE35R2UF0 T...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
How well do big F flippers fit in an M barrel frame? Got some pics? Surprisingly fine (with some minor modifications to a couple rows). Really doesn't seem like they changed the important dimensions too much. https://deskthority.net/download/file.php?id=65462 https://deskthority.net/download/file.p...

You don't even need to chance the Mini M barrel frame. Unicomp still sells the 84 key SSK barrel frame right here: https://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/CVSET (choose the Frame-84key option). I used the Unicomp frame to build my FSSK.

Well damn, I wish I knew about the FSSK Metal Plate project! I think Lot Lizards Model MF was the only keyboard project that still held interest in the back of my mind. This PCB design looks fantastic. Grounding was definitely a pain in the ass to get right in my OG FSSK, and having bluetooth would ...

Re: Mu's New HHKB
10-12 hours is a pretty impressive result all things considered. I haven't found an excuse to pick up an M1 Macbook yet so there's no chance the laptop outlasts the keyboard. I think some lube is exactly what mine needs. The spacebar and some of the larger stabilized keys have gotten pretty loud and...

What size battery did you use and about how long have you been getting on a charge with Hasu's controller? My HHKB is also from 2014 and the idea of picking up a white one is very tempting. Over time it definitely doesn't feel as nice as it used to - especially after so much use. I take it you used ...

Oh if I did have one criticism - the issue I had with the 'J' key and the screw needing to be removed. The J key works fine, however you do notice the slight difference in key feel when heavily using J for vim. I might investigate fixing that at some point, but that's an issue down to my screw up.

And is it reliable? I heard something about these actually being quite flaky in extended real world use. Which is a shame. Personally, I go complete monkey-balls when keyboards get glitchy on me. Hi Ellipse, I just ordered some parts to finally finish building my FSSK - from what I have read it looks like Model F controllers and Flippers/Springs were shipping immediately, but I just wanted to confirm that was the case. Thanks!
