The "IBM numbering" is how it appears in the figure Laser attached in the previous post. "Ribbon numbering" is how a standard insulation-displacement ribbon cable is numbered, not IBM's wire bundle. For my Bigfoot controller, I cut one end off of a 20-pin flat ribbon cable, soldered the appropriate ...

There is some debate as to why the older IBMs feel different than the newer ones or the Unicomps. Some people think it's because the key stems have had more time to polish against the barrels. The key stems and caps are PBT in either case. Regarding the Windows keys, you can remap any of the existin...

You might try a quality Cherry board with MX blues. They are lighter but still clicky. The wiki should have actuation forces for all the switches. If you can find one, try an IBM beamspring keyboard. It's probably closest to what you seek. There shouldn't be any real typing feel differences between ...

Also sounds good. I'm a very visual person. I need to see things in picture or person to really know for sure, so It makes this process really hard. I think I need to switch my spacebar to white. Also the red esc key sounds very tempting. Also switching my color scheme for the arrow key section see...

Thanks for sharing all those details. I used a thick piece of soft lumber too, but I used a smaller piece and had to move it around frequently. I like the idea of using a larger board. I have a couple of foam pieces I need to punch out where I've already painted the top plate, so I'll be using the t...

Assuming you are going to install the controller inside, one thing you might want to be careful of is the difference between the way IBM numbered the 20-pin connector and the way ribbon cables are usually numbered. Getting this wrong could fry something! This little diagram shows the difference: rib...

Q1. What is the teensy 2.0 <-> arduino micro (not the micro pro, but the larger model, with the reset button) pin mapping, usable for Soarer's controller ? Or, alternatively (teaching fishing instead of asking for fish), how do i find out this mapping? (edit: i may have found it, after some reading...

how many pins do I need to connect to the teensy? I'd like to use a DB15 to 8p8c connector, but I think 8 wires are not enough. You need 11 altogether: 7 muxstrobe, 1 strobe gate, 1 sense, +5V, ground. I think there is a larger version of the pro micro if thats easier to get for people in the EU Ye...

Hi, yes I did use Soarer's controller. You can't use a Pro Micro because it does not have enough contiguous pins for the multiplexer (muxstrobe_port PB6:0). I used an actual Teensy instead. I cut the end off an old 20-pin ribbon cable and soldered it to the Teensy and plugged the other end into the ...

The former. And I see no sign of people's age having anything to do with it. GH's eye-hostile nature is its culture, not a quirk of its users. There's plenty of overlap in membership between both forums, and the same people don't do the same thing over here. One of the many reasons I only sit on th...

I was reading fohat's F-122 restoration thread on geekhack (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48786.0), and he seems to use a few bolts even when keeping all the original locking tabs. Maybe that's just something you're likely to need on these tall boards, even with the "perfect" foam. Thirty year...

At Michael's art supply there is a wide range of colors, a single sheet costing less than a dollar will do it for an F-122, and it is supposed acid-free for use in art projects and scrapbooking. Thanks for the tip. Haven't tried looking in a Michaels yet since there are none convenient to me. I hav...
