Can the 2u keys on Ergodox keysets (SA/DSA profile) be used both ways?

I mean can you use them vertically and horizontally?

Because the 2u keys on my Vortex PBT's are different. The + key on my numpad is straight at the top, the 0 key is slanted on the sides.

This means if I take the 0 key and turn it sideways, it doesn't fit that well.

Guys, I'm looking to buy 14 175u red blank, 2 200u red blank, 40 100u white blank (or 38 100u white blanks with 2 that have indentations).

What's my best hope? R5/6 doesn't seem to have 175u's in stock/production, will R7 have any blanks? Waiting period will be how many months?

Thank you!

Just set the grid spacing to be 19,05/8 and set snap to grid on if not already and you shouldnt have any problems aligning the switches. How do I set a custom value for the grid spacing? Mine is already snapping. EDIT: Go into Dimensions and set a value in mm, then use grid becomes this. This works...

Alright guys, I found a tool that creates a plate for you here: http://builder.swillkb.com/ Whether it's accurate or not I don't know but basically you use this website: http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/ to design your KB, and then copy the raw data to http://builder.swillkb.com/ that then buil...

Need help designing the PCB for my keyboard

Hello, I've tried following this guide: https://deskthority.net/wiki/KiCAD_keyboard_PCB_design_guide but I found it too hard. There's a lot of steps the author expects us to know, and I'm getting errors that aren't addressed. I've tried messing around with the tutorial files too but I can't figure o...

How much spacing do I need inbetween each keyswitch?

I'm looking to make my own KB, and now to design the PCB I need to know how much spacing I need. Does the size of keycaps vary greatly? I've got Vortex PBT double shots right now, would they be a different size to DSA keycaps in width? These keycaps are roughly 18x18mm. I'm guessing that I need to c...

Alright, I made a few prototypes and the one I'm going to show now has staggering for the pinkie. http://imgur.com/RxFy861 They keys are a mess, but the profiles are accurate. On the top pinkie keys, the ones to the left, they are half a 1u keysize down. On the bottom pinkie keys (? : b) keys, they ...

I live in the UK, I think I managed to add that to my profile now. As for the Access KB's, they're not exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the comprehensive reply vvp, I chose to have the 1.5u keys on the sides (the reds) for asthetics, but I'll change that to suit any layout issues I might hav...

Add column stagger especially for little finger columns it should be as much as about ½u. Look at some pictures from jacobolus to get inspiration about column stagger options. I couldn't find any pictures from jacobolus, I'm not good at searching posts on here. By stagger, do you mean something lik...

Want criticism on Keyboard design

Hello, I'm looking to create a two piece keyboard. The bottom group is the one I want to go for: http://imgur.com/u3fLxA5 [1] It's inspired by the Ergodox, I just don't like the matrix + thumb clusters on the Ergo. I haven't tried it so I can't comment on that. I want to add some missing keys via a ...

Got my Gateron switches, looking to build PCB.

Hello, I'm in the process of building my own KB. I've got my Gateron Black switches PCB mounted. Are there any dimensions for these switches? I've got an electronic caliper but measuring the distance from the pins is a bit tricky. Btw I can't find their website at all for some reason. Also, I have t...

The Row One [HONEYB/R1U150/RED] has Row two written in its image. Is this a mistake, or is Row Two commonly used in size 150 keys to go on Row One?

Ok I've mocked up a few, the third row is the design I'll probably be sticking with.

The last row with the three left hand pieces, are the colour schemes I've mocked up as a rough idea.

I purchased some PBT DSA's and at least 30% of the caps were warped and I had major gaps and uneven lines between the keys. I often see this when people post pictures of their new keycaps and I can tell instantly that the caps are from SP. The worst thing about the caps were the thickness and weigh...

Double shot PBT?

Hello, Last time I enquired (a few months ago), I came to the conclusion that double shot PBT's aren't made because the plastic is brittle. I thought ABS was the only ones made, then I came across this: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-backlit-doubleshot-pbt-keycaps Does anyone have these? From t...

You pay $75 and get a "deposit" of $100 for that. If the caps you ordered cost $100, you have a balance of $0. If the price of your sets drops to $90, you have a balance of +$10 that you can spend on more caps, or you can get a refund. I'm not sure but I figure that if you choose the refund you wou...

Some of the double-shot sets look beautiful. For example, I have an Olivetti set from Originative that I like to look at, but I don't like the way it feels. You can readily detect the difference by pressing down on a key and dragging your finger toward you. With ABS there is a sort of stuttering dr...

Oh and am I the only one who thinks shiny keycaps look nice? Or do you mean where rough-surface keycaps have become unevenly worn with use? Yeah ...

Indeed. But that 25% promotion is just to get more people in, while prices are way higher than 125%. Round 5A's current pricelist is quite excruciating! It's a balance of gambles. "Are my kits likely to come down much?" How does the 25% off work? I order my set HONEYB/ERGOBASE/RED + HONEYB/ERGOALPH...

I think the kits are split for maximum flexibility, the options are even wider this time! The costs I think are down to volume - both number of keys and scale of $$$. Cheaper keyboards do tend to show it more. (Filco's boards are nice, but their caps…) I'm impressed by those surface legends that have managed to stay intact though! If you want something highly resistant to shine, then we're talking PBT. This is what my PBT Granite set looked like when new: http:/...

Damn the R5a kits are so much more expensive than R5. On R5a you need two separate kits to make one, any ideas why?
R5 : HONEY/ERGO/RED (ErgoDox red kit | $55).

R5a: HONEYB/ERGOBASE/RED (Ergo base red kit | $49) + HONEYB/ERGOALPHA/RED (Ergo ALPHA red kit | $45)
