I don't know what the rules are on commercial usage, but have you tried the sites keyboard-layout-editor.com and builder.swillkb.com ? You can edit the keyboard layout in the first one, then import the code into the second to generate a CAD file which you can download and tweak as necessary. My two ...

@Plasmodium Well, that was our plan. We listen to the community, what they want to see and what they don't want to see. Of course we will offer versions of it, black/blue/red switches, RGB/one color/none, 60%/fullsized etc. We thought about the firmware, since our keyboards would come with a progra...

Well, patents are here to protect the person who made it, but we can do it without patents if you want. And thanks for correcting my mistake! It's not blue, it's red. I'm pretty new around here, but I've been doing a fair bit of reading about making a 60% since I decided to make my own. It seems li...

Interesting thread, I will keep an eye on this because this is a project what is in my head for some time but I lack the overall knowledge to make it happen. I was looking at a Griffin Powermate but missed the hardware options you describe here. Headphone jack - Speaker output switch. USB hub and d...

Soarer's code is closed-source and Soarer himself hasn't been active on the board for months from what I have heard. :( The key codes for media keys are in the USB spec, but how much a volume step is is defined in the software on the host. The firmware does need specific support for media keys beca...

I'm sorry I can't tell anything about that encoder from just that image. I would need more info. Fair enough - this is the listing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1Pc-KY-040-Rotary-Encoder-Module-Brick-Sensor-Development-For-Arduino-AVR-PIC-/400698011756?hash=item5d4b76706c There are plenty of similar-l...

Muirium: That's great - so you'd recommend Soarer's Controller for a full board as well? I had been planning to use the one in Matt3o's guide (Hasu's, I think?), but I'll have a look at Soarer's if you think it's more convenient. Do you know if you can control the increments in which the volume goes...

Volume knob on custom keyboard?
Does anyone have any experience adding a volume knob to a Teensy-powered keyboard? I've done a little reading, and on the hardware side, it seems you could use a rotary encoder or a potentiometer. I'm a bit of an electronics noob, so...what are those and which would be better? Secondly, on the softw...

Wow. Those are some serious specs. You've definitely put a lot of time and effort into that case! You wouldn't happen to have a build log anywhere, would you? Have you seen the oak cases for the Pok3r keyboard that are currently on Massdrop? They wouldn't physically fit your board, but something lik...

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you - building my first keyboard in the coming months with a nearly-but-not-quite standard layout! One thing I don't understand, though - if you're not using a Teensy, what will you use? Virtually any controller will require a certain amount of coding, but it's not too d...

Any thoughts on how to convert 2u POS keys to fit a standard mount? I picked up some leftovers up from 7bit just to fill the numpad, but the 2u keys I got were POS ones (ie, they have 2 stems, not the 3 required for a standard stabilised mount). The easiest way would be to knock out the stems and gl...

Also, a quick question about KRO/ghosting with a matrix on a Teensy (if anyone is looking at this thread...): I hear terms like 2/6/NKRO and ghosting being thrown around a lot where keyboards are concerned - as I understand it, they concern the ability to register multiple keystrokes at once (correc...

Ok. I've split the shift and fiddled around with the bottom row keys a bit. 60.png I like having Ctrl and Alt on one side of the spacebar, but equally I want a Fn easily reachable with my left hand...the Win on the right isn't ideal, but it's the best compromise I can think of. As scottc said, both parts exists prebuilt. The numpad part exists as is as Qtronix Scorpius 32 which you can get for 20€ from eBay . But if you want to build it for the sake of building it your self, I'd say go ahead! It's great fun :D I would split the right shift into 1.75U + 1U so you get a HHK...

I don't want to ruin it for you, but you can actually get pre-made keyboards with this exact layout. You could also get PCBs for the 60% too if you still wanted to DIY it. You can get some Qtronix somethingorother for the numpad etc. part also. I understand that it's fun to build from scratch thoug...

OEM is a confusing moniker. That "Cherry OEM" profile is a lovely, if somewhat squat, spherical keycap family. Today's generic "OEM" profile is a hideous cylindrical keycap style that gets uglier every time I lay eyes upon it. My thoughts precisely. :) Coming from outside the keyboard 'world', I am...

DSA keys are all the same in each row, you could use them to make a completely custom layout without having mismatched profiles. This versatility is one of the reasons I am looking for a set (along with the relatively low height)! Kabouik, have you looked at the picture at the top of this page? I'm ...
