Is it possible to set a dark skin for the forum?
I searched but I found nothing...
Thank you!

Right now, there is only one "skin" at DT. When my eyes need a rest, I run this JavaScript (which I have saved as a bookmarklet in my browser, and trigger with a key combo):
Looks like this:
Works on any website, of course.
Code: Select all
javascript:%7Bfunction%20setDocumentColors(node,%20bgcolor,%20color)%20%7B%20%20%20%20if%20(node.style%20!=%20undefined)%20%7B%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20node.style.backgroundColor%20=%20bgcolor;%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20node.style.color%20=%20color;%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20node.style.textShadow%20=%20'none';%20%20%20%20%7D%20%20%20%20if%20(node.hasChildNodes())%20%7B%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20var%20children%20=%20node.childNodes;%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20for%20(var%20i%20=%200,%20len%20=%20children.length;%20i%20%3C%20len;%20++i)%20%7B%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20setDocumentColors(children%5Bi%5D,%20bgcolor,%20color);%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%7D%20%20%20%20%7D%7DsetDocumentColors(window.document.body,%20'black',%20'white');%7D

Surely it's much easier to just use Stylish (assuming Firefox or Chrome)? Here's the Firefox equivalent, plus a fix for the buttons that end up with unreadable text:
Code: Select all
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document domain("deskthority.net") {
* {
color: white ! important;
background-color: black ! important;
text-shadow: none;
}
.round-button {
color: black ! important;
}
}

Perhaps, but that's I why don't use that. I run neither. Also, my Command + 2 combo to make a page black is something I have manual control over. I often read DT in its natural white style, too. Depends on the ambient light and my eyestrain.Daniel Beardsmore wrote: ↑assuming Firefox or Chrome

Yeah, I too thought this was a thread about race.prdlm2009 wrote: ↑I doubt it. This place is mostly pale Europeans.
I don't know when "colour scheme" or "theme" became "skin". It always makes me think of somebody skinning an animal and slapping the slimy flesh onto their computer screen.

Muirium you are right again! I remembered the term from WinAmp!
"colour scheme" or "theme" are more complex concepts. I just wanted to darken the background.

Having to keep stabbing every page to get the right colours would make me tear my hair out. Stylish styles can be toggled easily via the toolbar button, and they remain active or inactive until further instruction (this makes them useful for development simulation).Muirium wrote: ↑I often read DT in its natural white style, too. One man's pleasure is another man's pain, I suppose. I have my hands on the keyboard much more often than I do the mouse, and I like to pre-empt this sort of thing. I also use full negative colour mode, system wide when necessary.

Computers must get a lot of pleasure out of how they get us to do all their work for them.

Thank you Daniel Beardsmore. Your solution is different (and with the Firefox extension "Stylish" also easy to use) but equally useful, for different purposes (i.e. sites frequently used).

Thanks to Titian for giving the opportunity to the world to know the ignominy suffered by heroic Venetian general Marco Antonio Bragadin...
We are a bit off topic. People are too literate in this forum...

Ah, the Venetians. The wild fundamentalists who blew up the parthenon!
I've seen Titian's work up close, at a large exhibition some years ago in Edinburgh. Not bad! And I like the Venetians plenty, too, but history is far too rich for good versus evil!

i find the look of DT very easy to read, in fact i use a stylish script that makes GH look more like DT as i cannot stand that black background, normally i don't mind but with the huge signatures and avatars all over the place yuck i hate it on forms when the fluff is bigger than the post , i have signatures and avatars hidden on DT ( for some reason muirium still had a funny u where the avatar should be )
