Here's something that ergonomic keyboard designers could borrow. If you rest your palms, you'll accidentally hit a key, but you might want to actually use that key later. A shift key could work well.
One step further would be to make it detachable, so it could be used as a footswitch if desired...

Wow. That's an interesting layout that I had not seen before. Only one column per finger, and <Shift> seems to be a thumb-key.
