Hot damn: the Round 5 Realforce! Just Systems does some very tasty JIS layout boards, in fact I had my eye on a Realforce 91U of theirs during my recent Tenso acquisition. I will be back when they do the TKL version of this one!
Damn it. I keep looking at that page. Someone buy one of these and post pretty porn for all of us!!

PBT, much more wear resistant.
I have no idea of Japanese, but if there where an email address somewhere in there, it would be in Latin letters, wouldn't it?

I wish i snap a decent picture of my spacebar, but besides some minor shine on the right, mine haven't worn in at all. Is shine created from wear or from accumulated oils from ones hands?
Either way, im sorry the set didnt pan out for you ShivaYash, good hunting.

There's a reason why old-school ABS double-shots were shiny out of the box.
You know, now I wonder what material the Selectric III keys were, because that typewriter was marketed as having "non-glare" keys. Did IBM figure out PBT doubleshots?

all ibm double shots are ABS as far as i know
but i have never seen shiny beam spring keys, possibly the quality of the plastic is also important
unless you want light on dark i don't see any advantage of doubleshot over dyesub ,
they need to make a set for the minila

According to their 1982 catalogue Cherry used Tenite for their doubleshot keycaps, maybe this material is more wear resistant than ABS.

Intriguing. Tenite is definitely not just a different name for ABS:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenite
When, if ever, did Cherry shift to ABS for doubleshots? I've a few of their vintage sphericals…

Here's the link to the catalogue on our beloved wiki: http://deskthority.net/w/images/0/0b/Ch ... e_1982.pdf
On site 21 of the catalogue (site 11 of the .pdf) it states the different materials for the keycaps and switches. It looks like your flat sphericals are made from ABS according to this, if this has been so since they exist I don't know.
I happen to have some of these high profile keycaps and they don't show any wear, but of course I don't know how much use they got before I got them. Here they are in our wiki: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_B_65-1712
This reminds me, that I still have to add some keyboards to the wiki, I think I'll have time to do so this weekend.
The German wikipedia site for Tenite says that Tenite is very strong, hard and tough.

KeyboardCo wasn't brilliant in resolving this issue. Although I made it clear I wanted a replacement set, a refund was granted and then they made a fuss about paying my return postage, which was initially offered. I really wanted to keep the key and they failed to realise this.

Odd. I usually only hear good things about their customer support. (Good bloody job too, given their insane prices on Topre and a lot of the good stuff!)

Yep, their prices are fairly mad, and previously I've had good service, but after explaining my issues prior to ordering, and then immediately once my fears were realised, they didn't seem at all concerned about almost reluctant to keep my business. I made it clear I wanted a replacement but they refused.Muirium wrote: ↑Odd. I usually only hear good things about their customer support. Not sure how many other such sets have been sold and I know from the forum posts about this same topic, that I am not the only one to raise this issue.

That might be the problem: maybe all the sets they have in stock are crummy? Pointless sending out a replacement if it's just as flawed. And not the best behaviour even selling such things, if this is really the case.
Otherwise, they're just acting incompetently for a change. Hmm.
