I'm considering to build another 60% custom keyboard with the following layout. But the minimal batch size for the manufacturer is 10. So i'm considering to run a group buy.

Image

Details :
— ordered from http://ortholinearkeyboards.com,
— 1.5mm stainless steel,
— 7U space bar,
— 1.25U modifiers,
— Cherry MX switches,
— Costar and Cherry stabilizers,
— 15$ each plate,
— compatible with 17$ Atomic case see here.

The minimum batch size is 10.

Are you willing to order one ?

I don't know yet.
Maybe from me(France) for EU and from ortholinear for the rest of the world.

Why not another modifier in each of the lower corners? You don't have to fill them with switches, but it would make it a bit more versatile for everyone else.

That would be ugly to have an empty hole.

Oh, you actually expect to see the plate when you're done? I would have expected any such extra holes would be covered by the case.

Why not an option for HHKB-style split backspace and shift right fn? That wouldn't result in ugly holes and would probably entice many more users.

Also, another thought: it seems weird to mix a 7U spacebar and 1.25 mods. 7U spacebars mostly come from older keycaps sets with 1.5U mods, where 1.25U mods usually come in newer sets with 6.25U spacebars. Why go for both?

The 17$ case don't cover the plate.

Major keycaps kit are sold cheaper in ANSI. We just need to buy an extra 7U space bar. I prefer the feeling of 1.25 modifiers.

Eh, fair enough. I can't say that I understand your motives but it is your project after all. I'm out, then. Best of luck.

You'll prefer 6.25U spacebar + 4x1.25U mods or 7U spacebar + 4x1.5U mod ?

Yeah, me too probably.

Although if someone did want to make a flexible cheap plate/case for making a hand soldered board, I would really be up for that :)

I would be in for one if 7U spacebar + 4x1.5U mod + ISO compatibility.

Just get any 60% plate, fill the extra switch holes with whatever and paint it.

No. For handwiring it's better to have well fitted switch-holes ! Most of the 60% plates are designed to support multiple layouts and it's not adapted to handwired projects.

I'm cancelling this IC since i've not get enough people interessed.
I've ordered a standard sixty plate + acrylic case from Tex for my project.
